Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt made has referenced several times in camp the competition at positions, especially receiver.

Wide receiver Ja-Mes Logan, a third-year sophomore, said the veterans anticipated this time after signing day.

“We knew we had some ballers coming in. Nick Brassell … baller. Tobias Singleton … baller. Donte Moncrief, man, all of them are ballers.”

Logan and Melvin Harris combined for 59 catches last year, making them the top returning receivers. Logan says they're taking nothing for granted in camp.

“We have some talented young receivers,” he said, with great emphasis on the word 'young.' “They keep you on your A game if you want to keep your spot, if it means something to you.”

Logan isn't a guy who typically lacks confidence anyway, but to hear him tell out, there's a belief level throughout the team that is not in line with a group coming off a 4-8, one-conference-win season.

“We have a lot of confidence this year, a whole lot of confidence … the O line, quarterbacks, running backs and receivers, the D line, the whole defense man. It's just different.”

I'm glad to see the whole team is confident in themselves this year after that horrid year last year. They had just better bring all of it with them on Sept. 3rd or the year could be just as ugly. I believe the first game is the biggest one of the season. If we were to lose this game which most predict we would but no one knows till its played on the field we will have a bad season once again this year especially with all the youth thats on this team. Most of them coming in haven't loss any or very many games and I believe it with affect their confidence a whole lot. Have got to WIN against BYU. If we can do that and I believe we can whole heartedly, I think we can be a really great team.
