Jeremiah Masoli talked about his excitement for seeing an SEC defense several weeks ago. The Rebels were getting ready to face Vanderbilt at the time.

Some would argue Masoli is seeing an SEC defense for the first time this weekend at Alabama.

Kentucky was a step up, but when folks in other parts of the nation talk about SEC defenses they talk about physical play up front and speed all over.

“They're a physical bunch, real fast, everything you want in a defense they have,” Masoli said. “It will be a real challenge for us.”

And a challenge for Masoli individually to contribute big plays in the run game, hit his receivers and most importantly – continue to play turnover free football. He did that for the first time at Ole Miss in the Rebels' last game.

“Any time you go against the top dog it's a big test,” Masoli said.

Alabama players are aware of Masoli's ability to avoid pressure and scramble for big plays. Masoli is the Rebels' No. 2 rusher with 262 yards and three touchdowns. He averages 5.2 yards a carry.

The Tide used freshman Blake Sims, a 6-foot, 195-pound athlete from Gainesville, Ga., to give the Masoli look in practice this week.

“Having athletes like Blake carry out that role makes a big difference. We should be used to it by game time,” Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson said.

In reference to that Ole Miss mascot thing, I think that they should adopt "The Clown", that would be more fitting for them.

Now to Jeremiah Masoli, he could well be a thorn in the side of the Tide this week-end. He reminds me, somewhat, of John Fourcade. I remember one game with the Tide and The Bear, Fourcade had the Bear pacing the side line. Ole Miss put up 35 points that day, but the defense gave up like 60 something points. It was a challenge and probably an embarrassment to the pride of Bear and his team.

So Masoli could possible put up 35 or more points this week-end against the Tide. So it will be Lou pacing the sidelines this time.

Clayton, I saw some of that on here. I think adopting a black bear at the Buffalo Park would be a good thing.

Hey, if Ole Miss is going to do the bear thing, embrace it and have fun with it.

The Buffalo Park is a neat place for young families.

You've got to have a mascot question on your blog:

What do you think about Ole Miss adopting "Bandit" the Black Bear at the Tupelo Zoo? Maybe you can wield your influence to make thathappen.

I think this is the score I left for Florida-Ole Miss a couple of years back....

Alabama 38

Ole Miss 10

Hope for the same outcome as mentioned in the opening line above.

Yea that would be good for them on the running aspect of Masoli but the kid has got a rocket arm with tons of accuracy while on the move. Thats tuff to defend. I just want to us to go over there and play a full game without all the mistakes and the game can be won.
