Some non-Senquez Golson notes from practice today.

Houston Nutt called it the Rebels' best day of work this camp. He seemed lukewarm about film study of the first scrimmage but apparently the Rebels amped it up today.

In one of the surprise moves of camp, freshman Aaron Morris has climbed through the deepest position group on the team to take a starting spot. Morris lined up at left guard next to Bradley Sowell today. Patrick Junen had been running first team and was second team behind Morris. Senior Alex Washington moved from No. 2 left guard to No. 2 right tackle.

There's a long way to go, and it will be interesting to see if Morris holds the job. Nutt called him the most physical lineman in Saturday's scrimmage.

While the Golson Twitter Fest goes on this evening, Nutt talked about using another freshman Nick Brassell, more on defense if Golson leaves. "You're probably working Nick (on defense) more 70-30 instead of 60-40," he said.

Defensive backs coach Keith Burns talked about getting ready to play the season with three corners. It's not unusual. The top two are going to get the most game plays, he pointed out. He's played with three corners at other times. Obviously you can't afford an injury, and it affects you in certain packages.

Nutt singled out the play of freshman WR Tobias Singleton for his route-running and catching. "He had an awesome day today, just outstanding. It seemed like he got his legs back today. He made some big plays for us."

Defensively he praised safety Aaron Garbutt and Wayne Dorsey and said his offensive line was overall more physical than in Saturday's scrimmage.

On the injury front from Saturday, reserve tight end Alex Williams tore an ACL and will miss the season. It's the second major injury for Williams, a third-year sophomore who was moved from defense to offense last year.

Junior college transfer defensive tackle Gilbert Pena has a fractured hand but isn't expected to be out long.
