The guy has his own website and is among the frontrunners, the frontrunner perhaps, for the Heisman Trophy.
Untill last week I thought Ole Miss might have a decent shot to slow Cam Newton. He just seems to get stronger, however, and the Rebels took a backward step in run defense last week.
Maybe the Rebels can tackle better and show the form they did against Alabama the week before, but the Ole Miss-Cam Newton matchup tilts a little stronger in Newton's favor now.
Looking ahead to the weekend, here's a look at what Newton has accomplished, mostly on the ground, in Auburn's 8-0 start:
- Leads the SEC and ranks sixth nationally (second among QBs) in rushing with 134.6 yards a game.
- Leads the nation in rushing touchdowns with 14 and in combined rushing-passing touchdowns with 27.
- Is the only player in the nation with five 170-plus rushing yard games this season.
- Is the only Auburn player other than Bo Jackson to have five 170-plus yard games in one season.
- Is ranked third in the nation in pass efficiency (172.08).
- Has been better against SEC opponents, averaging 169.8 rushing yards.
- Leads his nearest SEC rushing competitor by 354 yards.
- Will likely become the first quarterback to lead the SEC in rushing since Auburn's Jimmy Sidle in 1963.
The Rebels could win this football game if they don't listen to all the reports out there about how bad they are going to be beaten.
