Update 12:22 p.m.

Bruce Feldman has tossed out the name of Walker Jones to get a look as AD. I'm hearing of a movement of support for former Delta State AD Brad Teague, now at Central Arkansas.

*

Update 11:58 a.m.

This came across in email while I was driving over. From Ole Miss media relations, a press conference has been called for 2 p.m. Speaking will be Ole Miss chancellor Dan Jones and athletics director Pete Boone. Head football coach Houston Nutt will address the media at 3 p.m. The press conferences will be streamed live and free on OleMissSports.com.

Also, I'm hearing Archie Manning and FedEx VP Mike Glenn will lead the search committee for the next coach.

*

Update 11:48 a.m.

Hearing from a source that a Boone resignation will be announced at 2 but that he will remain in place until a new AD is named.

*

Update 10:07 a.m.

Conflicting information on the status of AD Pete Boone at this time. I'm told Boone will resign. Might not be today.

*

Rivals reporter Neal McCready cites a source in reporting that Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has been told he will not be at Ole Miss next season.

I have been told the same thing.

McCready goes on to report that Nutt will coach the final three games.

From what I was told there was some discussion on Sunday to name an interim coach. That may have been a snag in leading to a delayed announcement.

The regular Monday presser is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The school has not confirmed the reports.

I think you are way off base on the chant. None of those kids had a racial thought in their mind. It was a college thing. Just a bunch of students yelling. Personally, I never heard it and I was at a lot of the games and I don't remember it being a big deal on ESPN either. Jones and Boone are the problems at Ole Miss; probably Boone more than Jones. Boone was allowed to save face by "agreeing" to step down. Yeah, right. Whether we get the mascot or song back is not the biggest problem right now. The question is Will any coach take the position while Pete Boone is still at the helm of athletics. I know I wouldn't. Boone needs to go ASAP. Hopefully we have a committee that loves Ole Miss and wants the best for the University. Boone has to go and hopefully Jones will follow.

As much as I like Walker Jones he now is like high up with the Under Armor Co and at the end of the day Pete Boone`s son-in law and i think that hurts him.

Heard about Nutt's "resignation" on the radio. Got on this site just to ask when Pete Boone would "resign". Glad to now see he's on the way out the door as well. This all started with Boone firing David Cutcliffe because he felt Cutcliffe couldn't bring Ole Miss those National Championships they so much deserved. STUPID! Nick Saban couldn't bring Ole Miss a National Championship! Then he brings in NOgeron. Unless Nutt has just lost the fire, they should have just stuck with him but definitely gotten rid of Boone. Ole Miss and MSU are always going to have ups and down. Nutt has shown through the years he'll have more up than down. But whatever... GO DOGS!!!

Duece, I think you're mistaken about the chant. If I remember correctly, the deal over the chant arose when the chant was heard by the entire country at the end of a nationally broadcasted game on ESPN. To have a large and visible representative population of your school, drunken students or not, shouting such such a racially insensitive message is wrong. I agree that there was no way the students were going to listen to him but that's not his problem nor his fault. The Chancellor dealt with it in the only way he could. I honestly think the intent is to bring the song back (in a few years) once there is no threat to hear the chant from the students. The problem was never with the song but with the chant. I loved hearing the song as much or more than anyone (in fact I have it on my phone and play it multiple times each Saturday) but Jones absolutely did the right thing.

Disagree m4.....Jones is the center of the problem. the mascot issue was dead, he resurrected it. Asking the student section to stop a chant ..that before hand no one even noticed was simply a ploy. The idea that any student section full of drunk college kids would comply is ludicrous. You do have one thing right, the gradual changes ... and the reason you do not hear the names of the aforementioned President or AD is because they do not thrive on dividing their schools fan base and destroying the things that make their university unique. But its cool, remember as soon as the flag is gone we will win national championships.

Jones isn't this villian that everyone wants to make him out to be. He's being playing alot of the cards that he has been dealt. You don't go run rough-shot over everyone in your organization when you get control. You implement gradual changes, and attempt to get buy-in, then hope the organization can execute. Obviously, Pete Boone has been the hurdle in the organization for quite some time now, and without him in the mix, I believe things will evolve for the better. Jones has alot of things to balance out, not just the score of the Vanderbilt - Ole Miss game at halftime. This is the leader of the entire University, a place of higher learning, right? So, why should his highest priority be the athletic department? You don't hear Robert Whitt even brought up when you hear about Alabama athletics, why is that? You may not even hear who the athletic director is at Alabama, and that means that the President/Chancellor has the right people in the right places on the bus. Now, we will see if this happens.

Colonel Reb was gone BEFORE Jones. The Flags were gone before Jones. The flag at the center of the Circle that used to fly was gone before Jones. How can it all be his fault that the identity of the school has changed? Has he stopped people from coming to the Grove? That is more Ole Miss' identity than ANYTHING else. It sure ain't football.

Hotty Toddy - and good choices on the leads on the Coaching Search. Looks like good pedigree to get the right guy, whoever that may be.

I agree; this is the exciting part. I think Nutt was a good hire at the time but, for whatever reason, it has not panned out. I hope we go after a young exciting coach. We need to get someone on the rise, not on their way down, like Nutt, or someone completely unproven, like Orgeron. I'd be ok with Leach but I'd rather see Kirby Smart. I just don't know if how attractive the OM job is.

Can we also stop the Jones chatter? What's he done: (i) tried to give us a mascot to replace a symbol that many (MANY) see as rascist and offensive (FYI, I think the bear is stupid) and (ii) asked the students to stop saying "The South Will Rise Again" (another expression that MANY see as rascist) and stop playing the song when he was defied. Let's see how he handles this mess and whether he can maintain a positive image for our University through it all. I hope he does.

Dos: "No one cares what you say." if that's true, why do you keep bringing it up. Anyone with a quarter had a 50-50 chance of being right. You're a tool.

dont really care about Nutt, personally think he should have another year. Even though he has appeared to have been out-coached after the half several times this year, he has been a proven coach in the past, a new staff might help him. But boone is a start, but what about the goofball that has bumbled his way through this whole mess and stripped this school of its identity and soul?...Jones

This is awesome. The names of coaching prospects will be numerous. This is the exciting part. It is also the most important step towards the way out of the basement. Hooray BEER! Nutt can take his sack, back to Arkansas or hold his hat out to Jerry Jones.

The genesis of the new era is underway.

Paul Chryst should get a serious look. He is a James Franklin type coach. He is the OC at Wisconsin, by the way. Check him out, he is the next Saban/Miles.

Mike Leech needs to be our next coach. He's a lawyer, for a law school. He's marches to a beat of a different drum, as does the adminstration at Ole Miss. It would be just right.....Leech, Leech, Leech!!!

I guess I made dawginheat look like the fool that he is. I was told by a player before your text with HDN. Nutt was lying to you, he had an early morning meeting with players yesterday to tell them. Also, Gunner Brewer will remain at OM. Boone will resign at end of the year.

Don't know how reliable this is but I just heard from a good source that Boone, too, will be stepping down once a replacement has been procured.
