A few highlights from Houston Nutt's Sunday conference call. ...

MRIs for tailbacks Brandon Bolden and Enrique Davis are scheduled for tomorrow morning. Nutt seems sure enough about Bolden to keep calling it a possible fracture. What exactly that means in time away is unclear.

Davis' injury seems less severe, a hyper-extended knee, Nutt said.

There will be some position swapping going on as Nutt looks for running backs in the interim. He did not mention any names today, saying he wanted to talk to the players first.

Following the game he mentioned wide receiver Korvic Neat and freshman defensive back Chief Brown as possibilities.

Neat (5-8, 165) signed as a running back in 2009 before moving to receiver. As a redshirt freshman last year he rushed 10 times for 47 yards, caught nine passes for 74 yards.

Brown (6-2, 190) was signed to play defensive back but was a standout running back at Winona, running for 2,173 yards and 28 touchdowns last year.

Asked about junior running back Devin Thomas, Nutt said, “He did some good things. He caught a good ball. We just have to continue to work on our blocking in protection. We have to get better at that. Overall, he did a good job for us.”

Thomas carried once for 3 yards and caught one pass for 5 yards. He missed a block on third-and-goal that led to pressure in the backfield. Ultimately Zack Stoudt threw the ball away, and the Rebels settled for a field goal just before half.

Nothing has changed on the quarterback situation, which is less clear than it was a week ago. No starter has been named heading into Southern Illinois.

“We'll keep evaluating that position,” Nutt said.

Regarding Randall Mackey, he said Mackey “will get reps this week.”
