A few remaining thoughts from the LSU and the rankings brief. ...

The Rebels have dropped out of the Baseball America Top 25 in a not unexpected development. Trying to work its way into postseason, Ole Miss is 2-5 in its last seven SEC games.

On a stage like the LSU series, you need your best players to deliver, and there were mixed results here for Ole Miss.

Matt Snyder was 2-for-5 with a home run in Friday's 4-3 13-inning loss. He was stranded as the potential winning run in one of the three times Ole Miss had the chance to win in extras. Snyder had at least one hit each day and had RBIs two of the three days. He finished the weekend 4-for-11 with three RBIs.

LSU's Raph Rhymes and Ole Miss' Alex Yarbrough entered the weekend as the No. 1 and 2 hitters in the SEC, Rhymes chasing .500 and Yarbrough over .400.

Yarbrough was 0-for-6 on Friday, twice striking out with the winning run at second base in extras. Yarbrough rebounded somewhat on Saturday, driving in a run with a ground ball out and alter getting a basehit. He had his best game on Sunday with a 3-for-4 performance. For the weekend Yarbrough was 4-for-14 with an RBI and three strikeouts.

Sunday's game pushed Yarbrough back above .400 to .407.

Rhymes is at an even .500 after a 5-for-11 weekend. He scored four runs. He drew two walks on the weekend, including one with one out in the 13th on Friday when he came around to score the game-winner.

If there's a candidate for "comeback player" down the stretch, maybe that's Preston Overbey. That would be helpful. Overbey's offensive struggles led him to lose his job in right field, but he had two hits of the bench on Friday and laid down a successful bunt on Saturday. He struck out in his only appearance on Sunday to finish the weekend 2-for-3. If Overbey could get going, that would be a boost for the Rebels.

"call me the tumblin' dice"...great lyrics from a great band...pretty much sums up the rebelbears late season melt down. Turfguy posted weeks ago that the rebelbears were on the slippery slope, sliding down into the mirey pit. All you who say that Turfguy doesn't know what he is writing about, best back your truck up and take some notes. trfguy is alot more right, than is wrong and you know it..might not want to admit it, but you know the truth...Turfguy is TRUTH. Catch this pearl of wisdom...The football team will go 0 fer 8 in the SEC and end the season with 22 straight SEC loses....you believe me? ha!
