Highlights from Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino and Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt from today's SEC teleconference. They face one another Saturday morning in Oxford. ...

Bobby Petrino

(What concerns you about Ole Miss?)

“We know we'll have to come in and stop their run game. They've always done an excellent job of running the football. We know they're going to take their shots downfield with the deep throw, and defensively they always create problems with their pressure packages and tight coverage.”

(What does Randall Mackey bring to their offense?)

“The ability to run, the dangerousness he shows in his ability to get out of the pocket on pass plays and make things happen with his legs.”

(Do you think you'll have a good following of fans at Ole Miss?)

“Yeah, I think we will. I was real excited about the way our fans traveled to Dallas, having more people at the stadium than A&M did. I would think we would have a lot of people come over from Arkansas and support us.”

Houston Nutt

(With two teams going in different directions has this game kind of lost some luster?)

“I don't know. I feel like it will be pretty competitive. Any time Arkansas and Ole Miss play it's a hard-fought game and usually goes for 60 minutes.”

(Have you made a decision to replace Temple at cornerback?)

“I would love to have Marcus and Wayne Dorsey. Right now, we're still working Senquez Golson at corner, along with Charles Sawyer a little bit. Charles has had such a good year at safety we're hesitant to move him. Nick Brassell is also in the mix. We have to do it by committee there.”

(How has Senquez developed?)

“He's been doing an awesome job. What an attitude. Naturally he didn't want that highlight, but I'll tell you, he'll have a lot of good highlights in college before his days are over. He's coming. He's gotten better fundamentally. He's right in the mix and playing against the best of the best, and this week's no different.”

(What has secondary coach Keith Burns meant to your team this year?)

“He's done an outstanding job. He's brought a lot of passion, energy. I knew he would do that. They're playing the ball with their eyes, just night and day how much improved they are. They've done an excellent job. We've been getting a lot of turnovers.

“When you know someone, you've worked together, been in the trenches. You know how he's been raised, how he's been taught, it's a good feeling. I've enjoyed having him back, and he's done a tremendous job.”

(What are the similarities between Mackey and former Arkansas QB Matt Jones?)

“Matt was so much faster, a true 4.4. We had a lot more option. We will keep some option game in, but we look to run that about 8-10 times (with Matt), and we're probably half that with Mackey. He's very accurate, throws a beautiful deep ball. He can throw every pass. He's very, very good with a quick release. He's gotten better.”

Trouble in Oxford again: Ole Miss dismissed junior wide receiver Melvin Harris from the football program for a violation of team rules, coach Houston Nutt announced Monday.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Harris was second on the team in 2010 in catches (30), receiving yards (408) and touchdowns (three).

All week I have been trying to prepare myself for another Ole Miss loss, still can't bring myself to accepting this. I keep thinking back to 1952 season when the Rebels under the leadership of Johnny Vaught were starting their climb to national fame. Arkansas is one of those teams, as the Gators, that the Rebels have a mental edge over and just seem somehow to beat them when least expected. That 1952 October autumn afternoon in little rock the Rebels pull one off by beating the Razorback. Ole Miss went on to beat Miss STate in a Mud bowl game in Oxford. then made it to the Sugar Bowl but lost to Ga TECH. THE TV anouncer keep referring to the REBELS AS OLD MISSISSIPPI which infuriated Mississippi fans.

AS PA Posted this week that arky averaging over 38 point per game got me to think where I saw the rebels 16 plus point underdog. my faith and allegiance to Ole MISS is now restored and I am prepared to make my prediction when the time comes tomorrow.
