VIDEO: Nutt discusses first day in pads.

Special thanks to Ole Miss student Hayden Sowers for this video. Hayden will be helping out some this season.

Some notes of interest and plays that stood out in Wednesday's workout. ...

Zack Stoudt is not going away in the quarterback race. He's the second man up in the rotation, and while no one did anything inspiring today, Stoudt generally seemed most accurate and most catchable. I didn't chart his every throw.

He had a really nice touchdown on a fade to Nick Brassell, around 40 yards, with Aaron Garbutt covering.

Barry Brunetti had a nice deep throw that was not caught by Ja-Mes Logan. Marcus Temple was with Logan step-for-step in coverage, but I thought the ball was catchable.

Brassell played offensive exclusively today unless I missed something, and there's always the chance of that. Every time I looked up, though, he was on offense.

Sophomore middle linebacker Mike Marry was banged up and held out of most drills. That opened the door for redshirt freshman Ralph Williams to run with the first team, and Williams had a good day. Seemed to be around the ball a lot, and was generally active and enthusiastic. Had a nice play where he got off a block and stopped Jeff Scott at the line of scrimmage.

Williams may not necessarily overtake Marry, but at a position that's very thin his improvement would strengthen depth and could possibly get him on the field at another linebacker spot.

The Rebels were in full pads today, but the contact was limited as players got used to the feel of the gear again.

A couple of plays that stood out. Safety Frank Crawford picked off a Stoudt pass early in the day.

Kentrell Lockett had a sack; free safety Damien Jackson closed quickly and limited a screen pass to Brassell to a very short gain; freshman corner Senquez Golson batted away a pass at the line of scrimmage.
