Folks, this practice update comes to you from Hayden Sowers, a sophomore philosophy major from Tupelo who will be helping out this season.

Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt thought Wednesday's work was better than Tuesday, and offensive coordinator David Lee reiterated that by saying the offense had a much better day by cutting down on mistakes.

Nutt said senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett on the field is showing great leadership and DT Shackelford and Jason Jones are like coaches on the field even though neither is dressed out due to injury.

Speaking of Jones, Nutt said they are hopeful he'll return but just don't know at this time. Jones has been out since sustaining a knee injury in the first scrimmage.

Nutt praised his depth in the defensive backfield with Wesley Pendleton and Marcus Temple starting at corner.

Charles Sawyer recently moved from corner and is starting at one safety along with Brishen Mathews. Frank Crawford and freshman Cody Prewitt will provide depth at safety with freshman Senquez Golson seeing a lot of time as the nickel and dime back.

Safeties Damien Jackson and Aaron Garbutt are running 1-2 at outside linebacker, Nutt seeks to get more speed on the field.

Nutt said Cody Prewitt has really made a big jump running with the twos and that made room to move Jackson and Garbutt up to LB.

Nutt and Lee said their quarterbacks got better today. They both seemed frustrated with yesterday’s practice and said both Barry Brunetti and Zack Stoudt came out today and had good days.

I like the moves by HDN and the defensive staff to bring Jackson and Garbutt to the linebackers positions. I'm not sure about Garbutt other than his size and speed, but I for one know that Jackson can handle to duties of being a linebacker. He has more speed than most at that position and will knock your hammer in the dirt. Not so sure about sending charles sawyer to the safties, unless he's gotten a lot bigger really quick. Is this just the 4-2-5 scheme that they are doing this in or what? I could then understand. Whats all the rumors going around about Tobias? Is he just getting frustrated because he's not grasping the offense as fast as the other freshmen are? Hope he stays out of trouble if he doesn't make the second string.
