I missed a day during last night's chase of the Tobias Singleton departure, but I'm catching up now.

Something that continues to be a lot of fun covering college football is simply the view. Typically, we're allowed on the sidelines for the final five minutes. Of course, there is a lot of football still to be played, games still to be decided in the span.

I've stood under goalposts to watch field goals win - or not win - games in the final seconds. I've been just feet away from some big touchdowns and turnovers too.

Just a few that come to mind quickly:

- The 2-point conversion pass from Stewart Patridge to Corey Peterson lift Ole Miss past MSU in the 1997 Egg Bowl.

- The Bill Flowers catch from Ethan Flatt in 2004 to secure an Ole Miss win against No. 25 South Carolina on the road.

- The Dexter McCluster fumble in the south end zone at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in 2008. I remember thinking the Rebels were about to overcome a game filled with turnovers. Given the finish against Vanderbilt and Wake Forest, that 2008 team was very close to an 11-3 season.

- Ed Orgeron always had Memphis' number, but it wasn't always easy. Garry Pack had an end zone interception to seal the win in 2005, Ed's first game.

- As the MSU beat writer at Auburn in 1999 I watched an improbable final seconds comeback that included a Matt Wyatt touchdown pass - I'm thinking from about 10 or 12 yards out - that made its way through two defenders.

Some of the views aren't about touchdowns but are simply looking around at the stadiums. That was the case in Auburn defeated No. 2 Alabama in 1989 in the first Iron Bowl played at Auburn.

That was also the case in 2009, looking around Vaught-Hemingway for the LSU game. You could feel the tension in the stands, then finally the sense of relief when the clock ran out.

Before expansion I could say I was able to take in at every SEC stadium. I've been to Missouri, covering there with Ole Miss in 2006. I'm not going to claim my trip to Texas A&M, though. It was 1985 as the sports editor of the student paper at Northeast Louisiana. That was a great experience, but Kyle Field is a lot different now. I know this from making it part of my daily walk for the five days I was in College Station with Ole Miss baseball in the spring.

It will be 2013 - Lord willing - before I am again able to say I've made the tour through the entire SEC.

1 Corinthians 4:13

When slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.

deaconblues,

You are not only a hypocrit, but also true scum of this earth. making fun of a kid who isn't even around to defend himself. Wow, you are such a great example. What church has made you a deacon?

Mr. Deacon,

Heed your own words...especially #4. I said "you MSU folks" and you took ownership of that comment. In my opinion, that means you feel guilt or shame in what you originally said. Also, don't follow your prejudicial emotions with amen as you did in #5. That still seems as a mockery.

Religious freedom is a sensitive subject with me as I see the current state of our Nation a direct result from the lack of it. Bring prayer back to schools.

rebrt,

#1 I am probably older than your father.

#2 The only meds I need are the ones my Lord and

Saviour Jesus Christ, provides me with.

#3 I said "we all", because I was reffering to my

Church class that I teach. In it, I teach to

pray for those who need it most and I will

most surely pray for your forgiveness at Friday

night's supper meeting.

#4 Be wary of those who cast doubts upon one of

God's men, for the toll will be tremendous.

#5 I hope the blackbears lose every single game

just because of blackbear fans like you! Amen.

Please stop in the name of religion! There are certainly more important issues up for discussion.

For instance, have any of you thought about contributing to the Bo "the Blister" Wallace foundation? They are trying to raise funds for the purchase of a band-aid, so the blister can be protected and he can practice.

demonblues,

You need to go take your meds son. In your off-the-wall rant, I see no evidence that I was incorrect in my assumption that you are either a liar or a hypocrite. You said "we all" so unless you made an announcement to the entire congregation to pray for a blister, you're a liar and mocked the power of prayer. Your original post sounded like a joke even though you said you'd "never joke about somthing like the healing power of prayer!" I'm not bashing, nor have I ever bashed, religion as I am a devout Christian. I'm simply making a statement as to the lack of leadership and class you possess as a deacon.

Now, if I'm wrong, I pray for forgiveness. Given your rant Mr. Deacon.....I highly doubt that's needed. I'm still puzzled as to where in my 3 sentences I criticized religion or how I got labeled as a racist. I don't think I'm the one that needs inner peace.

at least Mantachie had the insight to give me the b3enefit of doubt. Just like a blackbear fan to jump the gun and criticize what they don't understand. You see I have no problem praying for a rival QB, or a human of different race, creed or religion. You are probably a racist and would deny entrance to your church, beacuse they wear a turban, or dashiky, or have dreadlocks, but at my church we invite all to share the word! yes, even Ole Miss fans.

rebert, you better just back your truck up! Why do you think my username is Deaconblues? I am a deacon in my church and if I want to pray for a blister, then I will pray for a blister. These other two yahoos can post what they want to! I am a man of faith and I would never joke about something like the healing power of faith! You are a jerk! There is a line that I will not cross, so you need to find your innerpeace and leave my religion out of it!

You have always shown your lack of class and I am sick of you casting doubt upon my beliefs. You best make your own bed inside your glass house, before you throw stones at my windows. You are a mockery of yourself. now!!!!!

You MSU folks have crossed the line by mocking prayer. I truly hope that God takes pity for your ignorance.

This thread is written proof that most (not all) MSU fans have no class nor respect for anything.

Deacon

I love to have fun and pick about the two teams

If you are serious about prayer then that is a good thing your church did .If this was sarcastic then you are playing with fire and it crosses over from the typical jabs back and forth.

Wed night prayer time is both powerful and serious.Like churn we have prayers that have been answered and has changed things for eternity.

In Jesus earthly ministry one of the things he was passionate about was when he said My Fathers house is to be a house of prayer. For those who turned it into something else he turned over tables and ran them out of GOd's house.Again if this was a serious prayer effort i commend you, if not I hope you want use church, God or Prayer to poke jabs at OLE MISS football. It is only a game when it comes down to it. However God's work is for real. It has eternal consequences.Yes I prayed last night at church also. Among us were Ole Miss, State, LSU, Bama Fans, all pouring out their hearts to God as one

Deacon that was very thoughtful thing for you and your Church to do for one of your adversary. Pray for healing. Prayer for healing is one powerful tool in the hands of the righteous and true believer. There are two small Baptist Churches near Oxford, I wont mention their names, but in my opinion they have power in their prayers, Me and my wife are living examples of that. God Bless you and your church family, Jimmy Barbee
