Occasional blog contributor Kyle Alford is along for the ride this weekend and met up with Ole Miss baseball signee Austin Blunt earlier this afternoon. Here's what they discussed.

I got a chance to visit with Ole Miss baseball signee Austin Blunt at the Fairfield Inn pool after Ole Miss' 6-2 win over TCU on Friday.

Austin is a left-handed pitcher from Mesquite, Texas and attended Howard Junior College out of high school. Austin was in attendance for the Rebels' win and had these thoughts.

“Bobby Wahl had a rough first inning, but he really got in his groove using his fastball and change-up I thought for the most part," Austin said.

Alex Yarbrough tripled in the top of the sixth with no outs to score Tanner Mathis,

Yarbrough tied the game when he scored off a Matt Snyder infield ground-out to get the Rebels' rally started.

"Alex Yarbrough did his normal thing, and that seemed to take the pressure off everyone.  Alex seems to be a real leader on the team," Blunt said. “I think he really started it off.”

The Rebels had more timely hitting in the eighth inning.

"Ole Miss really did a good job getting the right hits at the right time. Sikes Orvis had a nice hit up the middle,” Blunt said.

Some other schools that recruited Blunt out of junior college are Baylor, TCU and Mississippi State.

Thanks for the update. Always good to get coverage on baseball recruits. We need a couple more lefties on the squad.
