I have missed Camp Wilderness the last two days while I worked on tab and some other things here in town. Thanks to Hayden Sowers for filling in.
The plan was to get back over there this morning and again tomorrow for the scrimmage. The second scrimmage in an August camp is usually pretty important in terms of players' jockeying for position on the depth chart.
So that was the plan, but sometimes plans spontaneously combust, and this one has. One lasting result of the wreck in 1991 has been two defiant knees that have certain points past which they refuse to bend. The combination of high, wet grass and bad traction from the footwear led to an unfortunate backyard incident yesterday, so here I sit at Jones Family Medical Clinic this morning.
I was actually about to take care of the grass but never reached the mower. That's the long version of why you won't see a live practice report from me later today. I suspect I will make the scrimmage tomorrow. That's the plan, but you know from reading above what sometimes happens to plans. We'll see what Dr. Phil has to say here in a bit. Hopefully it's just a bit, but you also know how doctors' waiting rooms can be.
In the mean time I'll be checking the blog. Got a comment or question? Leave it here. I'll be around throughout the day when Phil finishes doing his thing. I'm optimistic. The knee feels better this morning than it did last night.
RebelMan, we haven't asked about Channing a lot, because it's the same answer when we do. The NCAA has the case, and there's nothing new to report. As soon as that changes, Ole Miss will be eager to release that news.
The delay is not surprising. The NCAA works on their own clock. In this case, you've got a kid who reached his test score late in the process and is coming from a school district that has been taken over by the state. Nothing in there made me think the Ward process would go smoothly and quickly.
It's a shame, because all accounts are that he is truly talented, and a team with little talent that is trying to find a playmaker off the edge could really use him.
Hugh has talked about the inconsistency of both his quarterbacks, but Bo Wallace has been more consistent than Barry Brunetti.
Most of the practice reps have been invested in those two. When Wallace missed earlier this week, Miller got a lot of reps, and that was good for him.
Nephew, I've covered a lot of these camps, and I don't think the rash of injuries is that different than most camps. THey've had one major injury, the torn labrum to WR Collins Moore, and another serious injury with the torn quad for Charles Sawyer. Certainly that's a blow, but Sawyer, we were told, would be out 4-6 weeks, and his injury occurred on the second day of camp. Recently Hugh has been speaking in more positive turns about a possible return by Moore.
There have been knees and some other things, but if it sounds like a really high number that might be because Hugh talks about injuries. Some coaches do not.
Hope you get a good diagnosis!
I was wondering about the QB from Fulton. Has he got a chance of getting some playing time in the season?
