Some highlights from Houston Nutt's time on the first SEC teleconference of the season. ...

(Can you talk about the number of freshmen on your 2-deep who will be playing Saturday?)

"Our freshmen have been so impressive. Lot of times you sign young men, you evaluate and work to get the best players, you don't sometimes get what you think you'd gotten. This group, not only were they Friday night heroes, once they got on campus, their approach to practice, keeping up with the pace of practice, these guys embraced that, and that's why a lot of them are playing. They've just been outstanding."

(Your thoughts on BYU in the passing game?)

"BYU has a quarterback coming back after an excellent freshman year. He's very consistent with his execution. He takes what the defense gives him and does a good job of not forcing it. They have an excellent football team that does an excellent job in the passing game."

(On Texas A&M's announcement that it will leave the Big 12?)

“Have they officially removed themselves from the Big 12? Been hearing rumors of it. I have a lot of confidence in Commissioner Slive and the chancellors. I'll let them keep up with that. I have enough on my plate. I can understand why people want to come to our conference. The stadiums are full, you're on TV every game, not just some games. It's just a competitive, competitive conference, probably the best conference in America.”

(Would Texas A&M in the SEC allow you to recruit Texas?)

“Oh yes, we do it now, but we will probably do it more.”

(What's different this time about your decision to give up play-calling?)

“This is the second time for me to do it. A lot of time you get going and you feel like … if I didn't feel like it was the best thing then I hate for the pressure to be on that coordinator, and I'd just as soon do it myself.

"But you hit on it with David Lee. I have total confidence in him as a play-caller, the organization, all those things. I feel like I have the freedom now to help with defense, special teams, to be in those meetings as well. It's been really good.”
