There were no shocking announcements at today's press conference.

Houston Nutt did not resign, and he also did not announce that any assistant coach has been relieved of his duties. He says he's still evaluating whether members of his staff will be retained or released.

“I don't want to. That's the most difficult thing there is. It's family. It's people you know and love. It's hard, but that's where you have to separate that and do what's best for Ole Miss.”

While there's no change on the staff today, the name of WR coach Ron Dickerson has been linked to the head coach opening at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Nutt indicated that sophomore running back Rodney Scott likely would not return to the team, but he was optimistic that most of his suspended players would return, including WR Melvin Harris, LB Clarence Jackson.

More notes later.

Rebel1008, it's hard for me to believe there will be no changes at all on the defensive side, but if Nutt was shooting straight today he has not made up his mind. The further it goes without a change being made the less likely a change will be made.

Dave Rader took a lot of heat this season, undeservedly I think.

Rader was brought in to "coach up" Nathan Stanley and Raymond Cotton. Cotton left, Masoli arrived, and the offense changed.

There was less coaching of Masoli, more free lance and playing to his ability.

As far as Rader, the emphasis on his title needs to be on QB coach, not coordinator, because Houston remains very involved in the offense.

Again, I'll be the last to say he should be fired, but an extension? The only explanation I can come up with is that he was promised this extension (or an even longer extension) at some point in the past and the state will only allow 4 year contracts (I have read that is the case in MS).

I'm with Churn. Instant gratification doesn't work for a small fish (OM) in a big pond (SEC). We need a good coach like Nutt to put down roots in Oxford and build this program to compete for years to come... And that takes time, and maybe a subpar season or two. Look at most of the elite programs in the country. They either have had the same coach for years and years, or have a new, young hot shot that replaced an old head. Viva la Nutt.

I'm still on Team Nutt as well.

He took the 2008 Rebs and turned them into winners. I'm not going to overlook that after 1 year.

I'm not suggesting that he be fired. I am a realistic OM fan and two straight cotton bowls cannot be so quickly overlooked. But why an extension? 4-8 with a team that should have been better does not warrant one. And if that means Nutt would have left, then so be it and let's take a run at Malzahn or Kirby Smart or even Kent Austin.

What do you want, JJREB? Send the Rebels back into the darkages of Sloan and Orgeron. That's probably what would have happened should Coach Nutt have decided to move on. Coach Nutt is a winner, just give him a chance to work his program.

Did we really just give Nutt an extension? I'm hearing rumors but I just can't believe we'd do something that stupid...wait, yes I can.

Glad to hear that Coach Nutt is staying at Ole Miss. The coach is a winner, The Rebels just had a wheel run off their machine this season, and was not able to recover, or get their football machine back in good running order. Feel assured, THEY will be back next season.Coach Nutt will get those problems solved.

GO REBELS!!!

GO NOLES!!!!

Good deal. I think that if HDN was to let go of the playbook and bring in a creative offensive mind that we could be very good next year with the talent we have coming back. Mackey will be good in Nutts offense but Stanley doesn't fit. I like Stanley and think he should get his chance this coming year, with us having experience back on the o-line all the way across. If he has time to throw he's dangerous and use Mackey when we want to speed up the game. Our defense will be better in the secondary of course bc we can't get any worse and with Lockett and Powe possibly coming back and C. Jackson and Shackleford in the lb corp coming back we will be good. Brandon Bolden and J. Scott will be a dynamic duo next year, just hate that it took BB so long to come around. Ready to see what Nick Parker can bring to the table as well. Receiving corps will be good as well with Ja-mES Logan and M. Harris coming back and V. Sanders being redshirted and Donte Moncrief coming in and possibly Tobias S if he decides to come to Oxford. Nix needs to stay, maybe we need a new secondary coach and I for one don't think that Terry Price has done a good job at all. So that bout wraps it up. NUTT let the play calling go and bring in a creative mind in that department and fire Price and the secondary coach and give someone else a shot there. Nutt hasn't had many years like this one. Don't think this is a start to something new. We won't be down but this one year. Hotty Toddy..

Hey Parish.... What are your opinions on what might play out with assistant coaches? I don't see where they will let Nix go.
