A few RPI numbers here.

Warren Nolan has Ole Miss at No. 20, Florida at No. 1 and Kentucky at No. 5.

That means the Rebels are 3-3 against the top five RPI teams. They also have quality RPI road wins at Louisville, which at 52 is the highest-rated team in the Big East, and at TCU, which at 43 is the highest-rated team in the Mountain West.

Ole Miss is 5-6 against the RPI top 50.

The eighth-inning collapse in Game 1 at Georgia cost the Rebels another road top 50 win. Georgia is currently No. 38.

Tomorrow's Governor's Cup game against Mississippi State in Pearl has no bearing on the SEC standings, but, as always, it carries RPI implications with a chance to gain a top 50 win at a neutral site. Nolan ranks the Bulldogs 48.

There another RPI opportunity this weekend at home against Arkansas, which is currently No. 9.

Quality wins here and there are important, but the Rebels need to get back to winning SEC series. They won just two of the first five series, and while winning twice against Florida was impressive, the other series win was against last-place Alabama.

The second half of the season has home series with LSU and Tennessee in addition to Arkansas and road series at MSU at Vanderbilt.

Boyd Nations has Arkansas at No. 9, Ole Miss at 23, Georgia at 41 and Mississippi State at 47.

The Rebels do have a difficult task ahead, that is if they want to make SEC tournament play. They will probably lose to LSU and Arkansas, and possible to the Vols. The vols are a scrappy small ball type team, They will take a hit by the pitch and do it frequently just to get on base. They did just that this weekend against the Gators. It paid off for them in a way but in a losing effort. Don't know anything about Miss State, but saw Vandy play the Gators early this season and getting swept. They did put up a hard fight and don't give up easily.

Good Luck Rebels!!!!!!. I would like to see the Gators have another shot at you.
