Will the best 2-5 team in the country be good enough to beat the second-best team in Alabama? We'll see in a few hours.

I've been walking around the Auburn campus this morning. I toured the basketball arena for the first time and am filing at the moment from a state-of-the-art dining hall next to the arena and a grouping of really nice residence halls.

All this construction, I guess, is why media parking is so far from Jordan-Hare Stadium.

I found it interesting, smart, that the arena is open on game day. The main concession area is open. Mounted TVs are showing various games, the team shop is open, and people are drifting in and out.

It's across the street from the football stadium ... as will be the new Ole Miss arena.

I'll head up to the press box in a little while. I'll have updates on Twitter and back here at halftime and postgame.

Right now, on the seven TVs in front of me, Vanderbilt is in control against Arkansas, and in another SEC game, Texas A&M is leading Missouri.

Not only is our defensive coordinator not making adjustments at the half...to stop what the other team is able to do against us....or anticipating what the other team may do to offset what we were doing successfully in the 1st half, he is unable to make adjustments on the sideline. I remember when Carl Torbush was defensive coordinator for Ole Miss and he could make adjustments any time. I remember one Egg Bowl in particular where the opponent's offense was running right through our defense in the 1st quarter....but by the middle of the 2nd quarter...he had them stopped cold and the Rebels won the game.

Remember...offense puts butts in the seats...but defense wins championships. If you gave Coach Vaught and his coaches 23 points...more than likely the Rebels won....they didn't get beat by 18 points. The same was true for Carl Torbush.

Just compare South Carolina's defense when Nix was there...with their defense since he left. Then compare our defense since Nix has been at Ole Miss...you will see a steady decline. Therein lies the reason for most of our problems the last few years. Nix is the problem.

Just when you thought the coaches couldn't get outcoached after halftime any worse than the Arkansas game, there was the Auburn game. Once again, better adjustments on both sides of the ball by the other team equals another 2nd half meltdown.

Flareb, I think alot of it is defensive coaching. I really hope regardless if Nutt leaves after this season or not I really would like to see a new defensive coordinator and O-line coach. The defense is seems to always be out position and never really surprises me. The O-line has been a huge disappointment to me this year. With the size up front the rebels should be alot more physical on run plays up the gut; but with the exception of a play here and there that has not happened. The team has shown moments of glamour, but only here and there; the defensive front and O-line have been bad most of the year. Ole Miss's secondary should not have to be making so many tackles. I have not seen the stat column for the defense this season, but I don't recall hearing any of the linebackers names very much this year. I knew losing D.T. Shackleford would be a big lose, but now I feel like it was a bigger lose than I orignally suspected. Whether or not coaching changes are made at the end of the season or not, atleast there is a good deal of youth getting playing time. There are some very talented Freshmen on this team. Maybe one the best freshman classes in the SEC. Hopefully before they leave Ole Miss they play to their potential and bring some success to the Magnolia State.

My fellow bloggers, I seek answers. Is it the coaching? Is it the horses? Why these second half meltdowns? Nutt is a great motivator. X and O's just don't add up. Seems to be the inability to make adjustments at halftime and quite frankly they are startling in that we keep getting crushed in the 3rd qtr. Saban and Miles get it, you have to play defense in this league and Ole Miss just doesn't do it like they should. Do we lack talent on defense? Is it the scheme? Is Nix not getting the job done? Running backs are five yds into our line before we make contact. Oh well, so much for that hunch I had this weekend.

HALFTIME: 17-17

Randall Mackey is much more involved in the run game, and the results have been good. He had runs of 11 and 10 yards to get the Rebels to 1 where Brandon Bolden scored to tie the game just minutes ago.

Bolden has had a big first half for the second straight week, running for 69 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.

Kentrell Lockett has had his best game of the year. He's around the ball and has already recovered two fumbles.

The Rebels have also turned it over twice, leading to 10 Auburn points. Mackey had an interception on a pass that was badly under thrown.

Considering the turnovers and the early deficit, 17-all isn't a bad place to be.

But Auburn gets the ball to start the third, and the Rebels haven't consistently stopped the Tigers, though they had better series later in the second.

JB, the weather is cool, but it's good football weather, and I came prepared. The wind was really whipping around before the game, but it's died down a good bit.

PA I see everything of my interest except, Weather. I bet it is going to get cold up there on the Plain tonight. I know it is here in Crestview, Auburn about 200 miles North of us. my wife prepared us with one of those good old Tula/Delay Mississippi winter evening Supper, Home Made tomato Soup with extras, iced tea, beans. so now will set back and wait for the game. hope I can PICK IT UP ON ESPN 3. enjoy the game AND REBELS KEEP THE FAITH DON'T LET THE TEAM DOWN.
