Here is a post from Hayden Sowers ...

- This week we will dive into Hugh Freeze’s first recruiting class and who I think you will see on the playing field in the fall.  We will start with offense today:

- It all starts with JUCO QB Bo Wallace, who lead East Mississippi Community College to a national championship.  Wallace was an early signee, meaning he was here for spring practice, and he looks to be the starting QB going into fall camp for the Rebels.  As you know in the Southeastern Conference you must have quality QB play to win and Wallace has my bet to be Ole Miss’s starter under center come September 1st against Central Arkansas.  Wallace chose the Rebels over Mississippi State and Baylor.

- One of Wallace’s backfield partners could possibly RB I’tavius Mathers out of Murfreesboro, TN.  At 6’0” 195 Mathers, who was named Tennessee’s Gatorade Player of the Year in both 2011 and 2012, is certainly going to come into fall camp with a shot of starting as Jeff Scott is the only RB on the Rebel roster with any relevant game experience.  I’tavius isn’t a burner, running a 4.56 40, but at the weight of 195 that is a fairly good time.  Even with Mathers the Rebels still need Devin Thomas or Nick Parker to step up and provide depth in the running game.  Mathers chose the Rebels after wavering when Vanderbilt made a strong push for his services.

- Pierce Burton, another early signee out of Community College of San Francisco, won the starting RT job out of the spring practice and will be the starter going into fall practice.  Burton is the type of lineman that Hugh Freeze wants, not the big bruiser that you would associate with being a lineman, but a faster, lighter type to run Freeze’s fast-paced offense.  Freeze beat out Florida for Burton so the bar will be set high for Burton.

Pierce is just the kind of guy you want on your team. Yeah, he's fast and big, but he has a good attitude and work ethic. I think we'll see a big difference in the line this year. A QB can't throw if he isn't protected.
