The NFL draft has come and gone with Bobby Massie being the only Ole Miss selection. That isn't terribly surprising given the pre-draft chatter around Ole Miss players.

Bradley Sowell and Brandon Bolden were mentioned as seventh-round possibilities with the more likely route to opportunity being free agency.

Massie was taken in the fourth round with the 112th overall pick to Arizona.

Sowell has signed a free agent deal with Tampa Bay, Ben Garrett of The Ole Miss Spirit reported Saturday evening.

Ole Miss basketball signee Marshall Henderson has been named national juco player of the year. Read it here. He averaged 19.6 points in leading South Plains College to a 36-0 record and the national championship.

Henderson is a prominent piece in what looks to be an impressive signing class for Andy Kennedy. The Rebels also expect to return a very experienced frontcourt, led by Murphy Holloway and Reggie Buckner.

It also helps the cause that other teams from the old SEC West are faced with transitioning rosters and in some cases, coaching staffs. There are new staffs at Mississippi State and LSU, and Auburn made news this weekend by dismissing two players and returning another.

There is no division championship for basketball any more, but these are all teams that Ole Miss will play twice.

It will be interesting to see where the Rebels are placed in the preseason conversation next fall. They will need quick contributions from Henderson with his 3-point shooting, but it appears the Rebels have positioned themselves for another run at the NCAA tournament. ...

Game 3 in the baseball series is set for 1:30 today after a split in the first two games.

Today's winner will have a leg up in the SEC West standings. Ole Miss is a game ahead of MSU right now, but if MSU wins and the two are tied, MSU would have the tie-breaker.

A series win for Ole Miss would be a big lift going into this weekend's home series against division-leading LSU.

MSU and Ole Miss both listed TBA for their Sunday starters.

It will be interesting to see who Mike Bianco goes with. He offered no clues following the Rebels' 6-2 win Saturday.

Sam Smith has the most starting experience of the possibilities, but Smith lasted just one inning last week against Arkansas. It was his first SEC start and the first game since what has been a successful move of R.J. Hively to the bullpen.

Hively has been a critical component in two straight Saturday wins.

Tanner Bailey is another starting possibility today. He pitched four perfect innings at Memphis Tuesday.

Hively pitched four innings yesterday and is likely done, but there are lots of arms in the bullpen that have seen no action this weekend and are fresh and ready today ... Dylan Chavez, Chris Ellis, Brett Huber ... and freshman Hawtin Buchanan who pitched 2.2 innings with no runs, no hits, no walks and five strikeouts against MSU in the Governor's Cup game.
