Looking ahead to tonight, the start of the Ole Miss-LSU series, read what Matt Snyder has to say about the Rebels' approach at the plate with runners in scoring position.

Also, Les East of The Baton Rouge Advocate writes about the stretch run and what West-leading LSU has to do to achieve its goals. There are nine remaining SEC games. I'm thinking Ole Miss, at 10-11 in the league right now, needs go 5-4 to feel good about its standing for an NCAA at-large bid.

The Rebels missed the NCAAs last year after a string of eight appearances.

With a 7-2 finish - a tall order - the Rebels could play their way back into the regional host conversation. A 6-3 mark would leave the Rebels at 16-14 in the league. In 2007 they went 16-14 and hosted, but that included reaching the SEC tournament semifinals. In 2010 they also went 16-14 and reached the SEC semifinals and went on the road to Virginia.

The stretch run almost impossible for the Rebels, unless they sweep LSU this weekend, saying that, for one thing they don't have the pitchers that can keep the LSU hitters under control. LSU is very good but a lucky bunch as well, they have no problem putting up 5-10 runs on the score boards and do it quickly. I don't think there is a weak spot in that LSU batting order, and their pitchers are very good and strong. The Rebels may get Nola-ed.

Good Rebels I'm pulling for you. You can help the Gators out or in this weekend.

It's a long way down the slippery slope. We are all getting used to total collapses by the Oxfart Dysfunctionals. I remember one season the Rebelbear's football team was ranked #4 preseason and I believe they ended up 114th. This is the "norm" for Rebelbear sports lately, now it looks as though Bianco is sliding down head first into the mud puddle at the bottom of the slide. It's like hitting yourself in the knee with a ball peen hammer. 120 days until kickoff!!!

What about overall record and RPI? Didn't those factor into 2010 and 2007?

Rebels have done well against former #1's SC, UF and UK. LSU is only ranked 4th, and a non-rival, but maybe we will show up for the series.
