Some national Houston Nutt links this morning and some names to watch as the AD and coach searches gear up ...

From ESPN: Time for change at Ole Miss

From CBS: Nutt out at Ole Miss, now what?

Names to Watch

Possible candidates for the next athletics director at Ole Miss. Here are some with Ole Miss ties.

Brad Teague: Jackson native, worked previously in the Loyalty Foundation at Ole Miss, has been successful AD and Delta State and currently at Central Arkansas. Between the two schools he has nine years AD experience.

John Hartwell: Presently carries the title of senior executive associate athletics director. Football scheduling is among many management duties. Also serves as COO for the UMAA Foundation.

Walker Jones: Ole Miss football player in the late 90s. Staff member from 2001-2008 leaving while serving as assistant athletics director for internal affairs. Presently director of sports marketing for Under Armour.

Danny White: Senior associate athletics director and executive director UMAA Foundation. Credited for restructuring “Vaught Society,” which encompasses gifts of more than $5,000 annually. Previously worked in athletics at Ohio University and Fresno State. Father, Kevin White, is currently athletics director at Duke.

Names to Watch

Possible candidates for the next football coach at Ole Miss.

Kirby Smart: Defensive coordinator for Alabama coach Nick Saban since 2007. Highly regarded for his defensive intellect and energetic recruiting. Former Georgia player.

Gus Malzahn: Auburn offensive coordinator. Successful at Auburn and in a two-year stop as assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator a Tulsa. He left Arkansas in 2006, a messy break-up with Houston Nutt after one season.

Kevin Sumlin: Houston head coach is known for his explosive offense. Currently has a Heisman-level quarterback at the wheel in Case Keenum. Sumlin is 26-16 as Cougars' head coach since 2008.

Mike Leach: Former Texas Tech coach went 84-43 and shared a Big 12 South title in Lubbock. Wide open offensive coach also known for his eccentricity.

Tommy Tuberville: Replaced Leach at Texas Tech coach and is 13-9 through two seasons. Gained national attention for Red Raiders' upset of No. 1 Oklahoma earlier this year but followed that up by losing big to Iowa State. Followed interim Ole Miss coach Joe Lee Dunn and left for Auburn following the 1998 season.

We would be hard pressed to find a better fit for AD than Dr. Brad Teague. Mississippi native, All-American pitcher at Delta St., past history of success as an AD (helped UCA move to D1), understands Ole Miss having worked in the Loyalty Foundation. I think the natives would not be so restless if Boone was out of the way.

Rrifle, I certainly hope you are right and I am wrong about Peyton. I love the Colts, 2nd to the Giants, of course. However, that is the word espn is reporting, so, I guess, just turn on your tv, that is, if you have one. Colts are in line to draft Andrew Luck. Also, what is the need to be an azz on here? Its a blog, for fun. Its where Ole Miss fans shoot the bull. So, chill brutha, they got medication for that.

I dont see Walker Jones as AD, especially with Nike being the corporate sponsor of all OM athletics. I wonder if Peyton is being considered? His career in the NFL is probably over. He would be an excellent choice for a.d.

Also, I think our new coach will be younger. The number one coaching prospect in the country is Paul Chryst. I'm sure if OM doesnt pick him up, someone will and OM will regret it.

We need a coach like James Franklin at Vandy. Look at the fire he has built in Nashville in one year. Vandy may be a force to be reconed with for some time if he stays there. I'm not saying hire him, just thats the fire we need.

Further, what about recruiting this Autumn? Nutt gone how will future recruit respond to ole miss? Just how many on the team will jump out of the Black bear pen and head for better grazing in greener pastures? Please pardom me for being so negative it don't look good for Rebel football in time to come. That bunch of "Cow BEllS" up at Miss State must been loudly ringing an shouting hallelujah! hallelujah!! Praise The Lord!!!!!

Let's face it. Like it or not!!! Mr. BOONE IS STILL AD at OLE MISS UNTIL HE DECIDES TO LEAVE. That could be never. So prepare yourselves to have him around for awhile. From what I understand who ever become head coach for U of MIss. must be approved by NAACP.

Stop playing PA. No way Tommy Tuberville is even being considered. Don't even float that name out there PA. We don't want his pine box being back near the Lyceum. Also, getting skull-drug 2 weeks in a row by Iowa State and Texas, how do you think he would coach against the Alabama's, LSU's, and oh yea, Texas next year????
