ACKERMAN - Bro. James A. Townsend died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at his home in Ackerman. He was born April 20, 1919, to Boyd and Grace Townsend of Kosciusko. He was a graduate of Ethel High School, Wood Junior College and Delta State University. He served his country during World War II as an assistant in a field hospital and as assistant to the chaplain. During this time he was called to the ministry. He served the Lord in the ministry of United Methodist Church for 331/2 years. He will always be remembered for his kind spirit to those in need of someone with a listening ear, the spiritually bereft and his amazing memory. He loved reading, flowers, painting and music.
Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Louisville United Methodist Church. Burial was in Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman was in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Grace Chambers (Eric) of Ackerman and La Fonda Poland (Brooks) of Batesville; two brothers, Carl Townsend and Cliff Townsend of Kosciusko; two sisters, Nell Turnipseed of Weir and Lucille Hathcock of Kosciusko; four grandchildren, Ben and Hannah Chambers of Ackerman, Brannon Poland of Newton and Anne Claire Henson (Chuck) of Batesville; one great-grandchild, Brayden Poland; and many nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy Douglas Townsend and Bonnie Reeves Townsend; parents; and one brother, Ralph Townsend.

AMORY - Martha Wynell Payne Box Guyton, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at her home. Born Jan. 30, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Talmadge and Hattie Berryhill Payne. A homemaker, she was considered an exceptional cook and enjoyed cooking for others. Before her retirement, she was a seamstress in the area garment plants. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting with her sisters. Passionate about animal rescue, she enjoyed her dogs, Lil' Bit and Annie. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.
A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Clinton Worthey and Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Lisa White (Richard Holcomb) of Smithville, Sara Kelly (Rob) of Plantersville and Teresa Northington of Galveston, Texas; two sons, Mike Gray of Nettleton and Frankie Box of Amory; two sisters, Fay Hutcheson (W.V. Sr.) of Columbus and Lou Ann Martin (J.D.) of Nettleton; nine grandchildren, Adam Gray, Chris Gray, Niki Gray, Nathan Gray, Nerissa Gray, Ashley Walker, Hunter Airhart, Hope Hall and Billy Box; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Butch Gray; grandsons, Nicholas Gray and Michael Gray; son-in-law, Billy White; her husbands, Elbert Box and Dewey Guyton; one brother, Douglas Payne; and three sisters, Sue Payne, Dorothy Earrey and Lavenia Reeves.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Martin, Tommy McDaniel, Kenny Shields, Ricky Payne, W.V. Hutcheson Jr. and Johnny Sloan. Honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Sloan.

BALDWYN - Bradley "Brad" McCreary, 35, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was truck driver for Waddell Trucking and a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing and spending time with his children.

FULTON - Evelyn Adeline Campbell, 84, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Courtyards Nursing Facility. She was born July 3, 1928, to Henry Oswald Thalacker and Julia L. Cummings Thalacker. She lived in Kenosha, Wis., until moving to Fulton in 1985. She was a homemaker. She loved animals, bird watching and the outdoors.

She had lived in Monroe County most of her life. She was a retired seamstress and a charter member of Nettleton Independent Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, going square dancing and spending time with her family.

SENATOBIA - Nellie Jean Grimes, 85, died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Senatobia Convalescent Center after a long illness. She was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Sarepta to Grace Arnold and Carnice Dickson. She was an active member of Sardis Baptist Church until her illness. She was a loving wife, mother and Nana.
She is survived by three daughters, Annette Fulmer (Lee) of Tiplersville, Sue Davis (Don) of Senatobia and Dorothy Jean Taylor (Alex) of Byhalia; two grandsons, Shane Taylor (Audra) of Delray Beach, Fla., and Wes Davis (Taylor) of Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Taylor of Delray Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law, Martha Dickson of Sarepta; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Wesley Grimes; parents; and two brothers, Arnold and Delaine Dickson.

WEST POINT - Beth Millsaps Brantley, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point. She was born Aug. 12, 1945, in Clay County to Evelyn Louise Foster and Samuel Lawrence Millsaps. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for various classes, WMU director for many years and sang in the choir. She also served on the Hospitality Committee as chairman several times. She married James D. "Jay" Brantley on Aug. 23, 1967, at Calvary Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on July 23, 2011.
