Edith Landrum

BALDWYN - Edith Outlaw Landrum, 85, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at her home. She was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Baldwyn to Claude Alton and Zilpha Bryson Outlaw. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Baldwyn and a devoted worker for the Food Pantry. She was a member of the Ladies Round Table Coffee Club at Houston's Drug Store. She enjoyed painting, and watching and feeding birds. She was the last member of her generation.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waters Funeral Home with Bro. Robert McCoy and Bro. Keith Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Baldwyn Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Steve Landrum (Tali) of Tupelo; granddaughters, Holly Kulp (Luke) and LeeAnn Lesley (Rob), all of Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Carter Kulp, Jesse Lee Lesley, Mary Lawson Lesley and Katherine Lynn Lesley; daughter-in-law, Valarie Landrum; special niece, Harriet Outlaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Holly Landrum; a son, Scott Landrum; two brothers, Elbert Outlaw and Jimmy Outlaw; and a sister, Edna Hawthorn.

Pallbearers will be Lee Outlaw, Darryl Winstead, Luke Kulp, Rick Caldwell, Rob Lesley and Wayne Hill.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ernestine Droke

AMORY - Ernestine Egger "Teenie" Droke, 86, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Born March 6, 1926, she was a daughter of Ernest N. and Minnie Puckett Egger. A graduate of Amory High School, she worked for J.C. Penney in Aberdeen and later moved to Memphis and worked for Leader Federal Bank before returning to Amory with her husband, James L. "Jack" Droke. A member of St. Union Primitive Baptist Church, she was a neighbor to others and enjoyed going to yard sales.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Masonic Cemetery in Amory with Elder Bobby Howell officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one brother, Robert "Bobby" Egger (Ursula) of Southaven; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Houston, Elbert and Charles Egger; and two sisters, Nettie Whitten and Nell Vaughn.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Visitation will befrom 9 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Jane Simmons

TEXARKANA, Ark. – On June 17, 2012, Mary Jane Stone Simmons of Texarkana, Ark., passed from this world to be with her Lord. She was born in Texarkana, Ark., on April 21, 1926. Mary Jane was the wife of A.J. Simmons for 54 years until he predeceased her in 2002, and they were business partners in Simmons Hardware and Building Supply for 48 years.

She was the mother of three children and their spouses, Beverly Simmons Cotton and Marshall of Tupelo, Judy Simmons Henry and Cliff of Conway, Ark., David Simmons and Angie of Texarkana, Ark., and a baby boy who predeceased her. Her grandchildren are Matthew Mahan and his wife, Morgan, Daniel Mahan, Joseph Henry Jr., David Simmons Henry, Andrew Simmons, Amanda Simmons, Brittney Ray, Cheri Cotton Burleson, Chris Cotton and Clay Cotton. She has a 96-year-old sister, Vida Dell Owens, formerly of Texarkana, Ark., and now living in Dallas, Texas. She has six great-grandchildren and over 30 nieces and nephews from the Stone and Simmons families.

Mary Jane's father and mother were William C. and Clemmie Clifford Stone of Texarkana, Ark., and she was the ninth of 10 children, Festus Stone, Vio Pierce, Vernie Stone, Dessie Kipple, Lucille Millis, Chester Stone, Vida Dell Owens, Clemmie Lee McNatt and her baby brother Buddy Stone.

Mary Jane was a Godly example for her children and grandchildren. Her life demonstrated her commitment to her Christian faith. She was an active member of Beech Street First Baptist Church of Texarkana. She will be remembered for the way she loved her Lord with all her heart, mind, soul and strength and demonstrated that daily in the way she put the needs of others ahead of her own. She enjoyed being engaged with her family and their friends. She cared about the details of each of their lives, loved to listen, prayed daily for the needs of every one of her children and their families, and thanked God for the blessings they were to her. She was naturally engaging and had a way about her that made you comfortable. Each family member feels blessed to have shared such a close, loving relationship with her because of the active part she was in their lives. Mary Jane was an avid fan of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, particularly football and gymnastics. She had a keen business acumen, enjoyed traveling and learning but most of all, spending time with her Stone and Simmons families. God blessed her and the world with 86 fulfilling years of life. She truly lived out God's plan for her life to be the woman He created her to be.

A celebration of Mary Jane’s life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Beech Street First Baptist Church with the Rev. Craig Jenkins and the Rev. Richard Posey officiating. Burial will be at East Memorial Gardens under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Ark.

TUPELO – James Douglas “Jimmy” Blue (“Blue”), 69, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Grace (Trotter) Blue. and his father, Russell Graham Blue.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Dorothy Marie (McDonald) Blue of Tupelo; his five children, Lisa Blue (Amy Cox) of Gluckstadt, Melissa Blue Peterson (Derek) of Helena, Ala., Tona Justice (John) of Madison, Mike Black (Marti) of Mantachie and Tina Osborne of Tupelo; his eight grandchildren, Carter Peterson, Avery Peterson, Alyssa Osborne, Lexie Osborne, Leighton Justice, Austin Black, Chris Black (Andrea) and Jonathan Black (Amber); and one great-grandson, Reid Black.

Blue worked as a Customer Service manager for Coats American, and retired in 2001 after 31 years of service. While he enjoyed his time at Coats American, his proudest professional achievement was his time with the Army National Guard, where he served as a sergeant 1st class. He hung up his dress greens after 25 years of service, but his devotion to the United States and the Army National Guard lived on through stories that he shared with family, friends and fellow Guardsmen.

While the Army National Guard was his proudest professional achievement, his family was certainly his proudest personal achievement. Blue was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he could often be found at home, grilling his famous steaks while sharing stories and jokes with his tight-knit family.

Visitation will be held at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo today, June 19, from 5 until 8 p.m. and services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Bro. Don Fox and Bro.William Shack will officiate. Derek Peterson, John Justice, Chris Black, Jonathan Black, Austin Black and Brian Gillespie will serve as pallbearers. B.L. Outlaw, Tim Gillespie, Jorgen Scheuer, Bob Maynard, Clifton Shields, Gene Godfrey, Bill Keller, Jim Harrington, Larry Hisaw and Fred Shumpert will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Maxola Bonds

BOONEVILLE - Maxola Fugitt Bonds, 86, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Landmark Nursing Facility in Booneville. Born on May 8, 1926, to Clovis and Syble Fugitt, she was a lifelong resident of Prentiss County and a member of East Booneville Baptist Church. An employee of Blue Bell Manufacturing, she became a fulltime homemaker and caregiver to her daughter, Kathy, who had cerebral palsy. An avid reader, for over 20 years she wrote a column, "Booneville Happenings," for the weekly Booneville newspaper, The Banner Independent. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Hampton and Bro. Rickey Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Memorial Park near Corinth.

She is survived by one son, James Bonds (Nancy) of Brentwood, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Valerie Bonds Carlton, and Matthew Bonds (Janie) of Brentwood and Susanne Bonds of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Wynette Kelley, and one brother, Boyd Fugitt (Evelyn), both of Booneville; numerous nieces and nephews..

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Bonds; a daughter, Kathy; a brother, Orville; a sister, Mozelle Kitchens; and her parents.

Randy Sides

TUPELO - Randy Wade Sides, 34, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Marion County, Ala., as the result of a four-wheeler accident. She was born in Amory on Jan. 2, 1978, to Billy Sides and Dianne Smith Sides Bennett. He had resided in Lee County since he was 10-years-old. He attended the Tupelo Public Schools and graduated from Tupelo High School in l996. He was the self-employed owner of True Cut Lawn Care/Landscaping Service based in Tupelo. A great outdoorsman and an avid fisherman and boater, he enjoyed the area waters, his four-wheeler, hanging out with his friends, working on his trucks and anything mechanical. He was full of life, laughter and living and was beloved by his family and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Earl Barron officiating. Burial will follow in the Eddington Cemetery at Troy in Pontotoc County. Visitation will continue from noon to service time today.

Survivors include his mother, Dianne Bennett (Gary) of the Troy community; his father, Billy Sides (Debbie) of Golden; his brother, Rodney Sides of Tupelo; his fiancampée, Wendy Hellums of Belden; and his grandmother, Avonell Sides of Golden; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill Sides, and Merle and Johnny Smith.

CAIRO - Willie Etta Maness, 79, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at her home. She was a loving housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cared for her family and friends. She worked in garment factories until she retired. She has been a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church since its beginning. A master quilter and avid gardener, many plates were served at her kitchen table with the fruits of her labor.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hugh Maness of Cairo; two daughters, Annette Holder of Rogersville, Ala., and Becky Martin (Jeff) of Burton; two sons, Randy Maness (Cindy) of Cairo and Keith Maness (Patilda) of Booneville; eight grandchildren, Beth Tyler (Rob) of Rogersville, Stephanie Beckham (Josh) of Rienzi, Renee Gray (Benjamin) of Iuka, Natalie Barnett (Ben) of Anderson, Ala., Hunter Maness of Booneville, Elton Maness of Cairo, Sam and Callie Martin of Burton; four great-grandchildren, Lincoln Tyler, Emma Kate Beckham, Jonah and Ema Gray; three sisters, Mildred Highlander, Elaine Smith and Linda Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Garvin and Bernice Strickland Lambert; two brothers, Bobby and J.C. Lambert; infant sister, Shirley Jean Lambert; son-in-law, Eddie Holder; and a grandson, Brian Keith Maness.

CORINTH - Dorothy Sue Hall, 78, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Counce, Tenn., to William and Cora Lee Byrd Mayhall. She was a former seamstress having worked at several garment factories in the area. She attended the Burnsville Tabernacle Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Corinth with Bro. Allen Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Honnel Hall of Burnsville; sons, Rickey (Marianne) Nunley of Tupelo, Phillip Hall of Russellville, Ala.; daughter, Abbie Lawler of Maysville, Ga.; sisters, Devadia Kuykendall of Corinth and Ruby Williams of Bridgeport, Ala.; grandchildren, Bradley Hall, Candi and Marc Nunley; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Roger Nunley, and her parents.

WEST POINT - W.D. Ivey, 85, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at West Point Community Living Center in West Point. He was born May 11, 1927, in Clarke County to Winnie Easter Sowers and William Eugene Ivey. He was the owner and operator of W.D. Ivey's Garage in West Point for 53 years. He attended Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Elvie Estelle Runion Ivey on April 30, 1945, in Meridian. She died on May 24, 2009.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Reverend R.C. Bryan officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Rhea (Bennon) of Cedar Bluff; one son, Danny Ivey (Georgene) of West Point; three grandchildren, Jimmy Pointer, Bill Pointer (Michelle) and Martha Poss; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nelda Pugh (Hal) of Cedar Bluff.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Rhea; his sister, Lois Chism; and his brother, Earl Ivey.

LAUREL - Sarah Laverne Reedy Register, 86, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Laurel South Central Regional Hospital in Laurel. She was born Feb. 20, 1925, to Tommy Reedy and Bessie Franklin Reedy in Amory. She lived in Laurel for the past four years. She attended MSCW in Columbus and attended the Tupelo School of Nursing in 1968. She attended University of Mississippi in Jackson in 1972. She was selected as Who's Who in American Women and Who's Who in Nursing. She retired as psychiatric nurse at the V.A. Hospital in Fresno, Calif.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. today at New Prospect Cemetery with Bro. David Harrell officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen will be in charge of the service.

Survivors include one daughter, Joy Laverne McMillan Turman of Laurel; one son, David Thomas McMillan (Sue) of Ellisville; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

HOUSTON - Fred Brownlee, 77, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory.

Services were Wednesday, June 13, at Kyle Chapel at Vardaman. Burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery. Montgomery Mortuary LLC of Houston was in charge of the arrangements.
