Donald Clay Washington

PONTOTOC – Donald Clay Washington, 61, closed his eyes and opened them at the foot of Jesus, Monday, April 30, 2012, at his residence. He was a member of West Heights Baptist Church. He was a 1969 graduate of Pontotoc High School and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Public Administration degree and a 1973 graduate of the Memphis Police Training Academy. He was an undercover agent with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics for several years, he returned to Pontotoc as chief deputy at the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department. He worked with the Tupelo Police Department, where he obtained the rank of Captain and Patrol Shift Commander before his retirement. He was currently serving as a Deputy with the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012, at Browning Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. David Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the West Heights Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his children, Anna Maegan Washington of Los Angeles, Calif., Daniel Ray Washington, David Clay Washington and Brandi Washington Crane (Justin), all of Pontotoc; a stepdaughter, Lori Dover of Memphis, Tenn.; his special friend, Glenda Sanford of Pontotoc; four grandchildren, Presley Laine Washington, Sicilia Dawne’ Washington, David Brody Washington and Anna Marie Crane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Elco Washington and Agnes Mae Burt Washington; a sister, Frankie Mae Washington; and a brother, Harley Washington.

Pallbearers will be Leo Mask, Randy Roberts, Larry Poole, Jimmy Farris, Jody Stringer and Barry Carnes.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Melanie Dotson

BURNSVILLE – Melanie Clay Dotson, 55, died Friday, April 27, 2012. She was born on Nov. 15, 1956, in Corinth to Zola Braddock Beavers and father, Arthur Davis. She attended Burnsville High School, where she was a member of the Future Homemakers of America. After graduation, she worked in manufacturing until she became disabled. In spite of her disabilities, she lived a full life, loved her family unconditionally, and was a friend to all. She was a member of New Beginning Fellowship. A lifelong Christian with a heart of gold, she was passionate, youthful and forgiving.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Glen. Bro. Greg McAnally, Bro. Jimmy Daniel and Bro. Larry Marshall will officiate. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery.

Cutshall Funeral Home of Glen is entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Waylon Gregory McAnally (Nicole) of Burnsville; one daughter, Kristy Gayle McAnally (fiancé, Brandon Kyle Hofer) of Gulfport; three stepsons, Kristopher Singleton, Charles Eugene Dotson II (August) and Robert Ward Dotson; one stepdaughter, Patricia Dotson; five stepgrandchildren, Zoe Dotson, Malachi Dotson, Charles Trint Dotson, Tobias Dotson and Winter Dotson; two half sisters, Peggy Davis and Kathy Davis; one half brother, Lonnie Carol Davis Sr.; one niece, Miranda Brook Roberson; and one nephew, Lonnie Carol Davis Jr.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Zola Braddock Beavers; her father, Arthur Davis; and her grandparents, Earl and Julia Braddock.

Pallbearers include Waylon Gregory McAnally, Brandon Kyle Hofer, Wayne Hall Jr., Jason Ray Waldrop, Clifford Eugene Marlar and Dustin Allen Crowe. Honorary pallbearers include Kristopher Richard Singleton, Charles Eugene Dotson II and Robert Ward Dotson.

Lorisce Hamblin

ECRU - Lorisce Hamblin, 83, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at her residence. She was a member of Cairo Baptist Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, yard sales and flea markets.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cairo Baptist Church with the Rev. J.R. Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Cairo Cemetery. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Charles Hamblin of Ecru; three sons, Jimmy Hamblin (Rose), Kenneth Hamblin (Nancy) and Chris Hamblin, all of Ecru; one sister, Lavair Harrison of Randolph; four grandchildren, Wayne Hamblin, Pam Robertson (David), Donna Woods (Phillip) and Vicky Barnes (Glenn); and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Dalton Swords and Sally Stepp Swords, and a brother, James Frank Swords.

Pallbearers will be: Kenny Hall, Chris Hamblin, James Matthews, Mike Hudson, Tim Holcomb and Will Tutor.

The visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Cairo Baptist Church.

Peggy Lynn Harris

TUPELO - Peggy Lynn Harris, 57, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A Lee County native, she was born Nov. 16, 1954, to Robert Lewis and Virginia Doris Petty Wester. She was a 1972 graduate of Tupelo High School and a member of Bissell Baptist Church. She was an avid Ole Miss and New York Giants football fan. She loved spending time with her mother, attending auctions, watching Wheel of Fortune, interacting with children and her dog, Susie.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Roger Smith officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include her son, Robby Harris (Cassie) of Pontotoc; three grandchildren, Eli, Cooper and Milla Harris; her mother, Virginia Wester; her aunts, Joann Petty and Elizabeth Keith; her cousins, James Petty and Diane Dobbs, all of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Wester, on Aug. 28, 2010.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Turner, James Petty, Jerry Mancill, Homer Reeves, Sonny Corder and Junior Harbor.

Louis Bell Jr.

NEW ALBANY - Louis Dewitt Bell Jr., 65, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at his residence. He was born Jan. 20, 1947, in Atmore, Ala., to Dorothy Ward Bell and the late Louis Dewitt Bell Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from education, serving in administration in Mississippi and Alabama. He was co-owner of Countertop Solutions in North Mississippi. He attended Friendship Baptist Church in Ecru.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at United Funeral Service in New Albany with the Rev. Jonathan Baker officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery in Myrtle. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Garrison Bell of New Albany; his mother, Dot Bell of Bay Minette, Ala.; a daughter, Kelly Jernigan (Robbie) of Brewton, Ala.; a son, Jason Bell (Brittany) of Orange Beach, Ala.; three stepdaughters, Lauren Jeter (Chase), Allie Newby and Mallory Newby, all of New Albany; a sister, Cathy Weaver (Ricky) of Atmore, Ala.; two brothers, James Bell (Marsha) of Atmore, Ala., and Craig Bell (Gina) of Eupora; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Walter Moore, Chris Basil, Jason Hall, Chase Jeter and Todd Nowlin.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In honor of Mr. Bell's service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Army flag during his visitation and service.

James Swindol

WEST POINT - James Cecil Swindol, 82, died Monday April 30, 2012m at his residence. He was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Webster County to Estee Hyde and James Noel Swindol. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean conflict. He was a 50-year Mason and a member of Pheba Masonic Lodge 565.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with the Rev. Wayne Mathis officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Webster County with Masonic rites and military honors.

He is survived by four sons, James Ray Swindol (Wendy), Gene Swindol (Georgene), Roger Swindol (Patti) and Melvin Swindol (Lisa); three daughters, Diane Jones (Adrian), Sue Hollis (Randy) and Kay McDaniel (Richard); 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gene, George, Larry and Daniel Kelly; and four sisters, Judy Kelly, Bea Charles, Margaret Harper and Linda Barkelew.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pernie Swindol; grandson, Wesley Staten; brothers, Marvin Swindol and Bill Kelly.

Pallbearers will be Tony Swindol, Derick Swindol, Chuck McMullen, Chuck Portera, Matt Warren, Jeff West, Chris Reese, Shawn Kennie and Mark Hill.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Swindol, Jon Hutchins, Mo Rahim, Billy Smitherman, Neil Myers, Frank Autrey, Richard Netherland and Adrian Buck.

LaVern D. Unruh

GALVA, Kan. - LaVern D. Unruh, 72, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1940, in McPherson County to Alfred and Myrtle Becker Unruh. He was a farmer. He married Lela F. Koehn on March 20, 1959, at Galva, Kan.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 1, at the United Center Mennonite Church at Galva, Kan. Moudridge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements in Galva.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Okolona Mennonite Church in Okolona. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors Okolona Chapel is in charge of the local arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Lela, of Galva; sons, Bryan (Starla) Unruh of Prairie and Anthony (Cindy) Unruh of Okolona; daughters, Leesa (Lonnie) Schmidt of Buhl, Idaho, and Susan (David) Koehn of Okolona; brothers, Darryl (Karen) Unruh and Marlin (Rosa) Unruh, all of Galva; sisters, Janet (Jerry) Doane of Canton and Dorita (Norman) Koehn of Macon; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

COURTLAND - Tony Selmer Daugherty, 64, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

YOUNGSVILLE, La. - Clara Elizabeth Winters Borganelli Kelley, 71, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, in Youngsville, La. She was born May 19, 1940, in Sumner. She was a retired beautician and a Pentecostal.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with the Rev. Robert Earl Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery at Bruce.

Survivors include two sons, Santo Borganelli and Jeff (Tina) Borganelli, both of Cleveland; a stepson, Garrett Kelley of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Angela Wallace of Youngsville, La.; a stepdaughter, Connie LaBove of Youngsville, La.; sisters-in-law, Margaret Winters of Grenada and Artis Winters of Weir; eight grandchildren, Fred Borganelli, Brittany Borganelli, Sanci Borganelli, Jack Borganelli, Nicole Wallace, Aiden Borganelli, Brant Arbuckle and Santo Borganelli III.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, F.A. Borganelli and Williford Kelley; her parents, William Fate Winters and Ollie Virginia Winter Winters; three brothers, Buddy Winters, James Earl Winters and Howard Lavonne "Bo" Winters.

PONTOTOC - Glenn Wesley Brewer died Monday, April 30, 2012, in Pontotoc. He was born and raised in Arkansas. He moved to Mississippi in 1985 and lived here until his death. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved fishing, working on cars and being outdoors.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Jack Ezell officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Edith Brewer; children, Irvin C. Bailey III, Jimmy Bailey (Kelly), Billy Bailey, Michael Bailey, Patricia Allen (Conway) and Rebecca Bradley (Mark); 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Brewer of Arkansas and Jimmy Brewer of Elaine, Ark.; two sisters, Francies Warren (Hotshot) of Elaine, Ark., and Julie Nolan (James) of Baton Rouge, La.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maggie Flemings and Ray Brewer; one brother, Allen Brewer; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lucile and Elton Kramer.

Collie R. Hughes

FULTON - Collie R. Hughes, 92, died Monday, April 30, 2012. She was born on May 30, 1919, to John William and Mary Ethel Samples Chamblee in Mississippi. She was a member of the Fulton Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers and taking care of family.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Russ Crosswhite and Brady Ramey officiating. Burial will be in Gum Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Glyn Hughes (Jan) of Fulton; one daughter, LaTain Richardson (David) of Fulton; two sisters-in-law; one brother, Bill Chamblee of Fulton; six grandchildren, Kelli Coehn, Jody Hughes, Niki Weaver, Misti Norris, Josh Steele and Chelsea Steele; 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lellon D. Hughes; her parents; daughter, Gwen Summerford; brothers, James and Charles Chamblee; and sister, Eloise Reich.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Reich, Fred Reich, Tommy Chamblee, John Chamblee, Jerry Crouch, Ricky Smith and Dwayne Chamblee
