Nel Justice

Amory – Nel Phillips Justice, 86, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Oak Tree Plantation. Born on March 16, 1926, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late William Gurdon and Oal Smith Phillips.

She was valedictorian of her class at Hatley High School in 1943. Marrying the love of her life, Arch Justice, on July 3, 1943, they remained dedicated to each other for almost 69 years. After 20 years of service, she retired as a loan teller with Security Bank of Amory. A member of Amory Church of Christ, she was a devoted Christian daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She lovingly cared for her aging parents and comforted many with an offer to listen and help in any way she could. A meek and graceful lady, she was all the good things a mother should be to her children. On July 19, 1970, Mrs. Justice graciously accepted her daughter-in-law, Melba Blair, into the family; they developed a rare and very loving and special relationship. Known to her granddaughters as “Gramby,” many wonderful memories are treasured as she spoiled them as only a grandmother can. Mrs. Justice enjoyed traveling to the beach and the mountains, visiting family in Maryland, especially at Christmas, sewing and tending to her rose garden.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m., today at Amory Church of Christ with Leslie Grant and Philip Hathcock, ministers, officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dexter Butler, Glen Bingham, Wayne Howell, Jackie Palmer, Doug Hoots and Jerry Cooper.

Visitation will continue until the service hour today.

She is survived by her husband, Arch Justice, Amory; son, Mike (Melba) Justice, Westminster, Md.; granddaughters and great-grandsons, Rachel (Ron) Fairchild, Adam and Matthew, Hampstead, Md.; Christy (Joe) Vadder, Henry and Michael, Manchester, Md.; brother, Don (Ellen) Phillips, Amory; sisters-in-law, Merle Vaughn and Sue Justice, Amory; numerous nieces and nephews; and dedicated friends, Glo Buie and Grace Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Justice; sister, Frances Faulkner; and brother, Wilbur Phillips.

Johnny Lambert

BOONEVILLE - Johnny Mac Lambert, 59, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012. He was born Jan. 31, 1953, to Chester I. Lambert and Theadus D. Dodds Lambert. After working many years in the construction field, he started his own business as a home builder and land developer. He adored his grandchildren and being outdoors. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and later attended Carolina United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Powell officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Koon Lambert; one son, Bryson (Lauren) Lambert of Booneville; two grandchildren, Riley Mac Lambert and Maddix Nicole Lambert; two sisters, Charlotte (Marvin) Dacus of Oxford and Bobbie (Lynn) Hester of Marion, Ark.; and two stepbrothers, Randall (Christy) Breedlove and Gary (Dell) Breedlove.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather Carmon Breedlove; and a stepsister, Charlotte Crystal.

Pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, Marvin Dacus, Lynn Hester, Nelson Koon, Tyron Koon, Roy Koon and Steve Treece.

Visitation will be until service time today.

PONTOTOC - Brenda Carlene Cox, 58, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, in Southaven.

Sabrina Bass

TUPELO - Sabrina Bass died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She graduated in 2005 from Tupelo High School. In 2008, she graduated from Itawamba Community College in Fulton with an associate degree in Early Childhood and Development. She was a teacher at Genesis Early Childcare and Learning Center in Verona, where she taught the Pre-K to 4-year-olds. She loved her children and sought, in every way she knew how, to help them succeed in life.

Service will be 2 p.m. today at H.L. Coleman Center. Burial will follow in Porter's Memorial Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Eric Bass; two sons, Erion and Christian; one daughter, Kayli, all of the home in Verona; her mother, Sarah Berry of Verona; father, Rodney (Shelia) Harris of Cleveland, Ohio; in-laws, Elder Frank and Beatrice Bass Sr.; one brother, Anthony Berry of Verona; four sisters, Veronica (Dirrah) Trimble of Tupelo, Natasha Berry of Tupelo, Rockell Harris of Pontotoc and Marasia Harris of Tupelo; her grandmother, Mae Sue Berry of Tupelo and James (Odine) Heard; seven sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and other relatives and friends.

PONTOTOC - Lonna Katherine Lynes, 64, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, after a long illness.

Survivors include her husband, John S. Lynes Jr.; four sons, Justin B. McAlaster (Tammy) of Sarah, Miss., Charles G. McAlaster (Tammie) of Coldwater, John H. Lynes of Ashland and Shane E. Lynes of Gulfport; one daughter, Betty Renee Tate of Michigan; three sisters, Mary S. Miller of Pontotoc, Deborah J. Kendrick of Cordova, Tenn., and Alice I. Pierson (Jim) of Lewisville, Texas; eight granddaughters; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lonne G. and Margaret N. Evans.

She made the wish to donate her body to the Genesis program at the Medical Education Research Institute in Memphis, Tenn.

BATESVILLE - Fisher Smith Hubbard, 92, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Mississippi in Oxford.

Alice Fields

AMORY - Alice Marine Fields, 92, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at her daughter's home. Born on Oct. 15, 1919, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of Mary Bell and Johnny Young Sr. She attended school in Becker, and was a member of Victory Temple Holiness Church Outreach Ministry. She was a former employee of the Monroe County Hospital (Pioneer) and Big Star. Her life revolved around her family, children and grandchildren. She was a strong, yet tender-hearted person who enjoyed gardening, fishing and watching her favorite TV shows.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Victory Temple Holiness Church with Evangelist Evelyn Crump officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Relay Cemetery in Aberdeen. Darden amp& Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by one son, Henry (Evora) Cockrell of Grand Rapids; four daughters, Roberta Fields and Danie Dobbs, both of Grand Rapids; Doris (Willie) Crothers and Jimmie Ann (Lenton) Corrothers, both of Aberdeen; one brother, Johnny "Singing" Young Jr. of Tupelo; 46 grandchildren; and more than 120 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lee Fields; two sons, Earnest "Bodick" Williams and Bufford Cockrell.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. today and family hour from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to service on Sunday.

William T. Peoples

MANTACHIE - William T. "Bill" Peoples, 87, died Thursday, May 3, 2012. He was born Feb. 21, 1925, to David Joseph and Jettie Northington Peoples in Alabama. He was a Baptist. He served in WWII and the Korean War.

Service will be 11 a.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Spradling officiating. Burial will follow in Center Star Cemetery.

Survivors include sisters, Marie Guin (Pren) of Marietta, Bertha Wilson (Emmitt) of Kansas City, Mo., and Hilma Ramey (Gene) of Peppertown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Vernie Blaylock, Mary Mink, Wilma Warren; and brothers, Woodie, Glaley, Roland and Kenneth Peoples.

Pallbearers will be Barry Peoples, Terry Reynolds, Tim Cowart, Tim Moore and Michael Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Guin and Thomas Hendrick.

Claude Dillard

NETTLETON - Claude Dean Dillard, 80, died Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. He was born to Claude Temple Dillard and Pearl Drewery Dillard on May 29, 1931. He was member of Hurricane Baptist Church and retired from Brookwood Furniture Manufacturing. He was a 1950 graduate of Hurricane High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball, and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved the outdoors, gardening, deer hunting and fishing.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc, with the Rev. Philip Brock officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Booth West Dillard of Nettleton; two daughters, Denise Crawford (John) of Germantown, and Janet Dillard of Memphis; four stepsons, Mike West (Beth) of Nettleton, James West of Nettleton, Randle West of Saltillo, and Curtis West (Tamsie) of New Albany; one sister, Jewel Mize of Oxford; one brother, Roy Dillard (Faye) of Hurricane; two grandsons, Jordan and Cameron Crawford; and four stepgrandsons, Jason West, Dan West, Gary West and Justin West.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ester Jarrett (Estel), Lorene Perry (Charles) and Pat Busby (George) and Kyle Mize.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Hurricane Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

NETTLETON - Stevie Lynn Adams, 49, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, at his residence. He was born June 29, 1962, to Jessie Adams and Mamie Cox Cook. He received his education from the Nettleton School system. He was a member of East Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was a truck driver.

PONTOTOC - Iva Mae Myers Abbott, 57, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at her home. She was born May 5, 1954, to Homer Myers and Irene Dowdy Myers. She was a graduate of North Pontotoc and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She worked at NMMC, Pontotoc and the Sunshine Health Care, and was a caregiver to many area families.
