NETTLETON – Kathryn “Kay” McDuffie, Nettleton native, longtime music educator and activist in the cultural and musical history of Mississippi and devoted Ole Miss alumnus, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with private burial in the McDuffie Family Plot at Nettleton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 AM-service time on Friday only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel (662 840 5000).

BOONEVILLE – Sheila Ann Owens, 48, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at her home. She was born June 8, 1964, in Booneville. She was employed in the furniture manufacturing industry, and she was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, working, hummingbirds, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Owens, whom she married on June 30, 1979; two sons, Jeff Owens (Kat) of Sandston, Va. and Tony Owens of Baldwyn; two daughters, Sonya McCoy (Bobby) of Booneville and Wendy Carwyle (Barry) of Thaxton; her mother, Nina Owens (James) of Baldwyn; a brother, Junior Tennison (Charlotte) of Booneville; two sisters, Regina Tennison (Dave) of Booneville and Pam Martin (Ricky) of Mooreville; her stepmother, Jan Tennison of Hamilton, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Tennison; and her grandparents, Alton and Sheila Ward.
Pallbearers are Macky Barnes, Preston Hall, Josh Franks, Cody Franks, Dave Whisenant, and Dwight Thompson.
Sgt. Ryan Meeks
GUNTOWN – Sgt. Ryan Meeks, 31, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was serving in the U.S. Army after eight years with two tours in Iraq. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Saltillo.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Waters Funeral Home with Senior Master Sgt. Dewayne Eaves officiating with burial in the Saltillo Cemetery with full Military Honors.
He is survived by his wife, Davlynn Meeks of Guntown; children, Blake, Savanna and Hunter, of the home; parents, Kirk and Tina Meeks of Saltillo; grandmother, Corrine Herndon of Saltillo; sister, Allegra Meeks of Saltillo; brothers, Karter Meeks of Saltillo and Zachary Ross of Tupelo; aunt and uncle, Pat and Doug Thornton of Guntown; mother and father-in-law; grandmother and grandfather-in-law; brother and sister-in-law; cousins; and other family members.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Kelly Meeks, Rex Herndon, Dutch Blake and Beulah Eaves.
Pallbearers will be members of the military. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Hancock, Matthew Edwards, Jason Blake, Joseph Thornton, Casey Thornton, Josh Herndon, Kasey Herndon and Drew Parker.

HOULKA – Doris Lozelle Kirkpatrick Collums, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Pontotoc. She was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Pontotoc to John Doyle Kirkpatrick and Mattie Lee Doss Kirkpatrick.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Houlka First Baptist Church in Houlka with the Rev. David Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka. Houston Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of the arrangements.

NEW ALBANY – Jewel J. Dorrough, 84, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County. He was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Pontotoc County to James Luther Dorrough and Parthenia Angeline Hale Dorrough. He was a retired employee of Rogers Gin and Supply with 25 years of employment, J.E. Love with 20 years employment, and the Ingomar School with 17 years of employment. He was a member of Ingomar Lions Club for 47 years and Fredonia Baptist Church, where he was ordained a deacon in 1961.

COLUMBUS – Barbara Nell Ausbon Culver, 77, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. She was born Nov. 20, 1934, to Lorse and Luna Gilmore Ausbon. She was a native of Nettleton but had resided in Columbus for the past 36 years. She was a homemaker, a Methodist, and she enjoyed watching television and being with her family.

TUPELO – Rosemary Tate Coley, 79, of Tupelo, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House. Mrs. Coley was born Nov. 28, 1932, to Jack Tate and Vance Allred Tate of the Brewer community. She was a Baptist by Faith. She was a beautiful person who loved and was loved by her family. She retired from Mississippi Military Department in 1989 after 23 years of distinguished service.

PONTOTOC – Frances Pauline “Polly” Watts, 84, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was born on Feb. 26, 1928, to William and Myrtle Rodgers Abbott. She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy. She was a strong Christian woman, a true prayer warrior and worked hard to leave a legacy of love and hospitality. She touched many lives through the years. She will be remembered for her delicious homemade biscuits and how she wanted to feed everyone who came to visit. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, sewing, and spending time with her family, whom she dearly loved.
