Nello Gean Plunkett

MOOREVILLE - Nello Gean Plunkett, 81, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at the Tupelo Nursing and Rehab Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors.

Vivian Spencer

NEW ALBANY - Vivian Lively Spencer 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany. She was born May 13,1932, to Bro. Bilbo Lively and Idella Todd Lively. She was retired from the business office of South Central Bell Telephone Company. She enjoyed painting, bluegrass music, dancing, fishing, all sports, and drinking coffee with her friends. She was a member of the first Baptist Church in New Albany.

A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at United Funeral Service of New Albany with Dr. Kermit McGregor officiating .

Survivors include one son, Raymond Spencer (Moana) of New Albany; one brother, Billy Ray Lively of Belden; two grandchildren, Luke Spencer (Kelly) of Jackson and Zack Spencer of New Albany; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Charles Frederick.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond Spencer Sr.

Visitation will be from noon to service time Saturday.

Paulette Gulledge

RED BANKS - Paulette Simmons Gulledge, 60, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville, Tenn.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Maranatha Faith Temple in Memphis. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 to 9:55 a.m. Saturday.

Danny R. Gasaway

VINA, Ala. - Danny R. Gasaway, 61, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay, Ala.

RED BAY, Ala. - Robert Elrod, 75, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Deaton Funeral Home of Red Bay.

Vernal M. Hollowell

RIPLEY - Vernal M. Hollowell, 98, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Ripley. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Ripley Funeral Home.

Gerald Pickett

NEW ALBANY - Gerald Leroy Pickett, 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after an extended illness. He was born July 5, 1936, in New Albany. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in New Albany. He graduated from Myrtle High School in 1954. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army from 1957-1959. He retired from Sears amp& Roebuck in 1983 after 29 years. He returned to the New Albany area after retirement and purchased Gregory's Grocery, which was renamed Harmony Grocery. He was a respected outdoorsman and founding member of the Tupelo Bass Club, the first organized Bass Club in Mississippi.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Robert Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. There will be no graveside service. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Diane Pickett; one daughter, Constance Pickett Gilley and husband, Rickey Gilley, of Myrtle; one son, Paul L. Pickett and wife, Deana Yamulla Pickett; one sister, Linda Pickett Hunter; two brothers, Carrol Wayne Pickett and wife, Carolyn, and Bobby Jack Pickett and wife, Lynn; and four grandchildren, Jessica Crocco, Mallory Gilley, and Nate and Taylor Pickett.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lafayette "Fate" Pickett, and his mother, Hattie Beard Pickett.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Baggett, Henderson Braxton, Mack Caldwell, Jimmy Edwards, Billy Evans, Bob Gault, Eddie Pou and Jimmy Snyder.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In honor of Mr. Pickett's service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the United States Army flag during his visitation and his service.

David Simmons

RIPLEY - David Simmons, 55, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Ripley. He was born June 21, 1956, to Rev. Cuba Simmons and Mary Spight Simmons. He was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Foster and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Bishop Hardy Coleman officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in Ripley. Foster and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three brothers and two sisters, James G. Simmons of Providence, R.I., Isaiah Simmons and Elmira Gibbs, both of Ripley, Elder Jeremiah Simmons (Cassandra) of Blue Mountain and Nellie Fryar (Eddie) of Ripley; two aunts, Bessie Spears of Milwaukee, Wis., and Christina Green of Springfield, Ill.; one great-aunt, Johnnie B. Simmons of Racine, Wis.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Simmons; and three sisters, Aggie Jackson, Betty Black and Mary Hill.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.

Joe L. Cox

RIPLEY - Joe Lee Cox, 46, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born March 28, 1965, to Mose and Verlena Cox of Ripley. He joined Moses Chapel at an early age and remained a member until his death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moses Chapel United Methodist Church in Ripley with Pastor Joseph Stone officiating. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery in Ripley. Foster amp& Son Funeral Home of Ripley is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his mother, Verlena Harding of Corinth; his brothers, William Mose Cox of Racine, Wis., James Albert and Eric Marshall Cox of Ripley, Frankie Lee (Bernice) and Charles Thomas (Jimmeal), Casey Jordan Cox, all of Memphis, and Edward Stone Cox (Elizabeth) of Corinth; sisters, Lena Mae (Larry) Spight of New Albany and Angie Berdina Cox of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, George Lee, George Max and John Davis Evans.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time at the church.

Cetorie Morris

TUPELO - Cetorie Ricke "Toskie" Morris, 18, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1993, to Christie Wells and Rickey Lee Morris in Tupelo. He professed hope in Christ at an early age at New Life Church, where he served as a member of the choir, usher board, and the pastor's armor bearer. He was a senior at Tupelo High School, a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and from his pee wee years through his high school, he was a "hard hitting" football player. He took football very seriously with a smile.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tupelo High School Performing Arts Center Auditorium with Pastor Willie Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Porter's Memorial Cemetery. N.L. Jones amp& Son Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors his mother, Christie Wells, and his father, Rickey Lee Morris; eight brothers, Courtney Fells, De'Vaughn McCoy, JaVaun Wells, Rickey A. Hill, Jaquez Knowles, Tahjai Wells, Taylen Morris and Tylen Morris; five sisters, Crystal Hill, Santana Hill, Brianna Fells, Jade Ford and Alexis Knowles; a special friend, Jakeyah Pounds; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Christine Morris and Josephine Wells; his grandfather, Walter Wells; one aunt, Natalie Wells; and one uncle, K. "KeeKee" Metcalf.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the Eck amp& Georgia Shumpert Memorial Chapel at N.L. Jones Funeral Home in Tupelo. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service time.
