BRANDON – Cletus J. Loyd Overby, 93, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Peachtree Village in Brandon. She was born April 22, 1919, in Lee County to Thomas Noah Loyd and Farby Plunkett Loyd. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Jefferson Overby; son, Bobby Loyd Overby; son, Jimmie Dale Overby; and brother, Cecil Loyd.
She loved her Lord and shared Him with many throughout her life. She prayed for all of her family and friends nightly, calling each by name. She loved people and with the multiple moves she made in her lifetime, she gathered many friends. She was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl and had a special love for Eggville Freewill Baptist Church in Eggville. She was a homemaker, worked various small jobs throughout her life, and was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ott and Lee with Dr. Gerald Gann, Dr. Keith Grubbs and Bro. Thomas Loyd (her nephew) officiating. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, La.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Lawrence (Gerald) of Brandon; her daughter-in-law, Appolonia Overby (Bobby-deceased) of Shreveport, La.; grandsons, David Overby (Lisa) of Iuka, Mitchell Overby (Aleta) of Ruston, La., Jeremy (Jaime) Lawrence of Oxford and Jason Lawrence of Brandon; two stepgrandchildren, Donna Andrews (Glenn) of Brandon and Tim Young of Lena; four great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Klaire Overby of Iuka, Landon Lawrence of Oxford, Anton Overby and Alex Overby of New Orleans, La.; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Destin Young of Blanchard, La., and Matthew Young of Lena; one stepgreat-great-granddaughter, Ava Tanner of Blanchard, La. She also leaves nieces, nephews and other relatives that she dearly loved.
Pallbearers will be David Overby, Mitchell Overby, Jeremy Lawrence, Jason Lawrence, Mike Loyd and Thomas Loyd. Honorary pallbearers are Cecil Wayne Loyd, Winston Ray Aron, Anton Overby and Alex Overby.

AMORY – Veraline Crawford Barnes, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Amory. She was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Amory to Clifton and Cealia Haynes Crawford. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and a graduate of M.C.T.S./West Amory High School. She later moved to St. Louis and was employed by St. Luke's Hospital for many years before retiring. She loved and enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking and working in the church until her health failed.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. David McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Darden and Sons Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four sisters, Louise (John) Marshall and Bessie Crawford, both of Amory, Hyumn Crawford Ford of San Diego and St. Elmo Crawford of Detroit; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Barnes; one sister, Orean Crawford Logan; and four brothers, Herbert “Golf Ball” Crawford, Oscar “Doll” Crawford, Jessie “Pond” Crawford and Willmer Crawford.

MANTACHIE – Caroline “Carol” Harris Manley, 70, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Tupelo to James H. Harris and Mary Neill Bowen Harris. She was a 1960 graduate of Tupelo High School, attended Mississippi State College for Women and earned a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Mississippi. She briefly taught school and worked for more than 30 years as a social worker in Lee County with the Department of Human Services, retiring in 1996. She was married to Billy W. Manley, who died in 2005. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching cooking shows on television, and loved watching her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where the Harris family, charter members, still hold membership.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with the Rev. Ray Rooney officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery in Blue Springs. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from noon to service time Friday.

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. – Dewey Verlon Cowart, 86, of died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012. He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Henagar, Ala., to James Edward Cowart and Minnie Samantha Worthen Cowart Wallace. He was a veteran, serving his country in the U.S Navy during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

BELMONT – Nellie Ruth Rhodes, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Tishomingo County native, she was born May 8, 1928, to Lee and Luzina Gray Rhodes. She was retired from Blue Bell Manufacturing. She enjoyed going to church and listening to gospel music. She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.

HOULKA – Billy Gene “Bill” Moore, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was a native of the Thorn community and the son of Robert G. and Hannah Ruth Kirkpatrick Moore. He was a Baptist. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era and served in Japan, Korea, Thailand and Germany. He received the Air Force Commendation Award, Good Conduct Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Award and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Houlka. He was commander of DAV Chapter 42, and past president of the Booster Club and the Masonic Lodge of Vardaman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Houlka with bro. David Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka. Southern Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
