Howard Smith Ford

FOLEY, AL- Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Howard Smith Ford, 77, of Foley, AL died Tuesday, April 28, 2009. He was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict, member of the American Legion Post 99 in Foley, AL, and life member of the Retired Sergeants Major Association Inc. in Killeen, TX.

Services were held April 30, 2009 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Foley, AL with Rev. Keith Talbert officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. Arrangements were by Cason Funeral Service of Foley, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Julia Ford.

Survivors include his wife of more than 45 years, Renate C. Ford of Foley, AL; two daughters, Julia Kendall and Margie Sanchez, both of Mansfield, TX; two sons, Howard Smith Ford II of Ratcliff, KY and Mack Ford of Vinegrove, KY; and eight grandchildren.

Ashley Holiday (Neal)

OKOLONA- Ashley Holiday, 26, died Friday, May 8, 2009 at NMMC in Tupelo, MS. She was born July 26, 2009 to Barbara Baskin and Benjamine Neal Jr. She was a member of Pleasant Plaines M.B. Church and attended Okolona High School where she was a member of the band and played the clarinet.

Services were held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Pleasant Plaines M.B. Church in Prairie. Rev. Michael MaGaha officiated. Burial followed the service at Okolona Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, U.S. Baskin and Benjamine Neal Sr.

Survivors include her son, Benjamine Matthew Neal III; her mother, Barbara Baskin of Okolona; her father, Benjamine Neal Jr. (Louise); two sisters, Kayla Brianna Neal and Brittney Neal; her grandmothers, Jannie Baskin and Doris Neal, both of Houston; and aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Otis Belk

PHEBA - Otis Lee Belk, 61, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Starkville Manor Nursing Home in Starkville.

Services were held Friday, May 15, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pheba. Burial followed in the Pheba Community Cemetery. Carter's Mortuary Services of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.

Hubert Zachary

MEMPHIS, TN- James Hubert Zachary, 79, formerly of Houlka, MS, died at Saint Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He was born February 4, 1930 in the Robbs Community in Pontotoc County to John Henry Zachary and Clarcie Bray Zachary. He was a retired salesman for Raiford Shoes and a member of Grimes United Methodist Church in Memphis. He was a WWI and Korean Conflict Air Force Veteran.

Services were held Sunday, May 17 at Houston Funeral Home with Rev. Bev Farnsworth officiating. Burial followed at Houston Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Norman Zachary in 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Mike Zachary of Jacksonville, FL and Jon Keith Zachary (Laura) of Katy, TX; one sister, Beatrice Oswalt of Houston; and six grandchildren, Joseph, Christopher, John, Myklia, Brandon, and Loren.

Maelean Chandler

HOUSTON- Maelean Chandler, 56, died May 17, 2009 at NMMC in Tupelo, MS.

Services were held May 16, 2009 at Johnson Creek M.B. Church with Pastor Bruce Guyton officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Creek Cemetery. Belle Memorial of Aberdeen, MS was in charge of arrangements. Online register book at bellememorialfuneralhome.com.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Katheleen Bean, and two brothers, James Bean and Larry Bean.

Survivors include two sons, M.L. Chandler and DelRico Chandler; a daughter, Courtney Chandler; five brothers, Robert Bean, Charles Bean, Ricky Bean, Darnell Bean, and Ronnie Bean; and three sisters, Sarah Rupert, Carrie Bean, and Barbara Taylor.

Mosella Townsend

PRAIRIE - Mosella Townsend, 86, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.

Services were held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Crossroads CME Church. Burial will be in New Hope Church Cemetery. Westbrooks Funeral Home of Aberdeen was in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma T. Nichols

VARDAMAN - Thelma Tedder Nichols, 85, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Calhoun Health Service Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Vardaman to Wilma Lee and Ella Mae House Tedder. She was a retired floor supervisor with Kellwood Co., a former school bus driver for over 16 years with Vardaman School District and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Services were held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. J.R. Eaton officiating. Burial was in the Elzey Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Lester of Vardaman and Marie Stewart (Steve) of Greenwood; two sisters, Clara Mae Pounds of Woodland and Wilma Rae Johnson of Vardaman; six grandchildren, Dale Lester (Martha) of Columbus, Misty Meredith (Toby) and Amy (John) Smitherman, both of Greenwood, Barry Lester (Shelia) and Melissa Robertson (Joe Allen Mitchell), both of Vardaman, and Chasity Vonderheide (Brian) of Tupelo; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Nichols Jr.; her parents; a grandson, Coy Stewart Smitherman; a son-in-law, Bobby Lester; a grandson-in-law, Tim Robertson; three brothers, George, Thomas Lee and Melvin Tedder; and a sister, Eugenia Lantrip.

Pallbearers were Dale Lester, Barry Lester, Toby Meredith, John Smitherman, Colt Robertson and Clint Lester.

Her great-grandchildren were serve as pallbearers.

Ludie Mae Moore

HOUSTON - Ludie Mae Moore, 76, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Trace Regional Hospital.
