But the Starkville Daily News reports that hotel tax revenues were almost 39 percent lower than a year earlier.
The city's latest sales tax report says the only other month with more than a half-million dollars in sales taxes was December 2011, at about $508,200.
Total sales taxes through August are nearly $3.7 million, up from $3.5 million this time last year.
That's despite a sharp drop in hotel tax revenues and a smaller one in restaurant tax revenues.
The hotel tax revenue fell from $18,000 in August 2011 to $11,000 in August 2012. Restaurant tax revenue fell from $144,200 in August 2011 to $131,500 in August 2012, down 8.8 percent.
