Alright.

For everybody who says there's nothing going on in Tupelo, I'm about to shut you all up. I went to the Performing Arts Commission meeting yesterday at the Link Centre, and I got a ton of schedules for upcoming concerts and screenings. Let's get to it...

The last Monthly Music Mix concert for the 2010-2011 season is this Friday, and the Bart Mason Band is performing. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and is in the concert hall at the Link. Tickets are $10/adults, $5/students.

Here are the confirmed dates for the 2011-2012 Music Mix series:

August 27: Dinner cabaret with Jauna Ellis & friends

September 30: TBA!

October 13: Jazz combo featuring Michael Jefry Stevens and jazz vocalist Joyce Cobb

November 5: Legacy, an Irish group from Jackson

January 20: Dulcimer group (in the round in the reception hall – this sounds fascinating)

February 17: Step Afrika, the world's first professional step team

Open dates run from March-June 2012, and there are lots of ideas being tossed around – gospel groups, choral students/groups, rock bands, etc.. More details on each of these shows as the dates draw closer.

If it's movies you want, Pat Rasberry delivers.

MOVIES IN THE PARK - at Fairpark

July 21: "Madagascar"

August 18: "Splendor in the Grass"

September 15: TBA

TUPELO INDIE FILM SERIES – at the Link Centre

August: TBA

September 6: "Surviving Hitler: A Love Story" – documentary

October 18: "Mars" – feature

November 15: "World's Largest" – documentary

January: TBA

February 7: "NY Export: Opus Jazz" – documentary

March 6: "We Still Live Here" – documentary

April 10: "Sahkanaga" – feature

This season, you'll notice the film series has moved from Thursdays to Tuesdays. This is to accomodate the filmmakers, who will attend each screening.

Also, Rasberry announced that the 2012 Tupelo Film Festival dates are May 16-19.

On Monday night the Link Centre and GumTree Museum of Art hosted a photography workshop with New York photog Brad DeCecco. It was super successful, with nearly 60 in attendance, and mostly very favorable feedback. The Link Centre is looking into hosting more workshops such as this.

The next Performing Arts Commission meeting is in August, so I'll catch y'all up again then.
