Lady Gaga's video for her new song, "Born This Way," premiered this morning. (click here to watch)
I liked it pretty well. The first several minutes – the "mother monster" manifesto – is awesome and pretty well spot-on.
The rest of the video – ya know, Gaga dancing around in her underoos – I felt like we'd seen before. Not that that isn't entertaining, but I liked it better in, say, "Telephone."
As far as the song goes, it's not my favorite Gaga song. I'm assuming she made the song..well.. kinda simple, so she can get her message out. I feel like had she made the music really different, her message may have gotten lost in it. But we're here to talk about the video...
My friend Spencer Pleasants is a HUGE Lady Gaga fan, and I asked him for his take.
Here's what he says:
The vid is great. I'm replying after 2 watches and I must say I get it. It was obvious with the Grammy performance and the outfits recently that the vid was going to be sci-fi. Not pretty! The best thing about the vid to me is that it's like watching "Alien"! I LOVE THE MOVIE "ALIEN"!!!
This simply must win critics over because she was smart. How? "Born This Way" is a 90's pop sounding tune, is the video not very 90's gross-freak-art music video also? David Bowie did a video for "The Hearts Filthy Lesson." That's hard to watch for its gross effects. It's not one of my favorites, but I still LOVE David Bowie.
I think its funny, cool, gross, should be enjoyed, and just silly! Was it what I expected? Not really – in the back of my mind I thought it would be like "Alien" but I also thought it would be her as a kid putting make up on. Is it one of her best? Sorta! I really want to watch "Alien" now!
What do you think about the video?
