This just in from the Tallahatchie Riverfest:

TALLAHATCHIE RIVER PLAYERS TO PRODUCE WINNING RIVERFEST PLAY

New Albany – This will be the 6th year that the Tallahatchie RiverFest will incorporate one act playwriting into the literary competition of the festival. First place carries an award of $100, second place $50, and third place $25.

The deadline for entries is June 30, 2009. No script will be accepted postage due. Send original unpublished one act play and four copies of manuscript on a disk. The original copy must include a cover page with title, name, address, and phone number for notifying winners. Additional copies should include only the title of the entry. Lost, misplaced, or misdirected entries are not the responsibility of the sponsor. No script will be returned and only winners will be notified.

Open auditions for casting in the selected entry/entries play will begin in early August and rehearsals will begin in late August. By submitting an entry, the playwright is granting the right for the Tallahatchie River Players to perform the selected entry/entries four times, royalty-free. TRP reserves the right to minor editing privileges, and the right to disqualify any entry.

Winners will be notified prior to the festival and will be recognized during the RiverFest on Friday, September 25, 2009. The Tallahatchie River Players will produce the selected entry/entries on Saturday, September 26 at 2 p.m. during the annual RiverFest. The play will be free to the public in the Magnolia Civic Center in Historic Downtown New Albany.

“The Tallahatchie RiverFest is excited about working with the River Players in this production,” remarked festival chair Bethany Dalton. “This is exactly the kind of partnership the RiverFest committee likes to have so both groups can host a successful event and get the community involved on an even higher level.”
