Who said Friday the 13th is unlucky?

Well, if you filled up in Tupelo at $3.84 or higher, then drove by the Love's Travel Stop in Belden, which has gas at $3.69, yeah, you're unlucky.

But Belden shared Northeast Mississippi's lowest gas price with Fulton and Sherman.

And Oxford tied Tupelo with the highest price at $3.84.

Remember, we survey our own set of gas stations for prices, and they sometimes can be higher or lower than those you the readers and drivers find, or see online elsewhere.

Other prices:

  • Amory: $3.80
  • Booneville: $3.70
  • Corinth: $3.73
  • New Albany: $3.72
  • Pontotoc: $3.81
  • Ripley: $3.81
  • Sam's Club: $3.74 (member price)
  • Starkville: $3.79

Hey - Check out our 3Qs with AAA Mississippi spokesman Don Redman in Sunday's paper on Page 2A. He talks about gas prices and where they might be headed.

Dennis and Carlie, thanks for the local gas price update. I needed gas Friday afternoon and was headed toward Belden so I took advantage of that $3.69 price. Had you not reported that, I probably would've paid $3.82 - $3.84 at a station near my work.

Keep doing what you're doing!

Here again the DJ takes a narrow view on an important topic..gas prices. Sure what gas costs in Aberdeen has some interest in Corinth but not totally. As I drive from one part of Mississippi to another I wonder why the prices vary so much and I bet I am not also. Oh, I know the story gas retailers tell but there is so much more to price setting, like artificially raising a price by 3 cents a gallon before dropping it back 2 cents...net gain a penny a gallon for no reason except for profit but we think prices went down.

Runningman, thanks for the input. Because we're the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, we want to provide a snapshot of the gas prices in our region, because that's where the majority of our readers are.

Lisa49, I have no idea where you're going...

Dennis:

Why not just give the regional gas price average and develop averages for other parts of the state. Mississippi is divided into 5 travel regions and you could create a map and put the average price in each region...that would give a better picture of the gas prices, IMHO. I doubt many people care what the difference in cost of gas is in Aberdeen, Amory or Tupelo. Gas is far cheaper in Central Mississippi than in North Mississippi. Why is that?
