Anyway, on to more relevant matters, I have an opinion offering in today's Journal (CLICK HERE). I tried to draw a parallel between the Seal Complex and the direction the program is going, and so there's a good chance I wrote a cheeseball story. But I think there is a pertinent metaphor at work here, and I do believe the Bulldogs have a window in which they can become a factor in the SEC Western Division.

Then again, teams like Alabama, Arkansas (hey, the players didn't get fired) and LSU still exist, so I could just be blowing sunshine. As the old sports writing cliché goes, ONLY TIME WILL TELL.

• I've got an MSU notebook in the paper, too (CLICK HERE). I wrote about the shuffling taking place across the offensive line, spring game ticket sales, and the hiring of Adam Gordon as director of basketball operations. Soak up all that info.

• In baseball, there was some drama at Dudy Noble Field last night (CLICK HERE). The Bulldogs (21-12) beat South Alabama 2-0 on a walk-off home run by Wes Rea. Starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff, a freshman from Wheeler, tossed six no-hit innings before being pulled. Up next is a trip to No. 10 South Carolina this weekend.

• Bye-bye, Bobby Petrino (CLICK HERE). If nothing else, you proved that you are indeed a hot-blooded man instead of a cold-hearted android. Well, OK, you're still cold-hearted.

• This is a high school story, but I think it's worth noting here: Longtime Ingomar coach Norris Ashley is finally retiring (CLICK HERE). I covered many of his games, but a tiny percentage compared to how many he coached during an illustrious 43-year career.

• By the way, today marks the beginning of the spring signing period for basketball. It runs through May 16, so we'll see who Rick Ray can snag to fill out this depleted roster.
