‘Paranormal Activity’ – are you a fan?

The latest “Paranormal Activity” hit screens earlier this month. Have you caught up with the fifth movie in the series?

Paranormal-Activity-The-Marked-Ones-PosterI love horror movies, and the original “Paranormal Activity” is one of my favorites. I’ve seen all of the “Paranormal Activity” films, but I haven’t loved any of the sequel/prequels as much as I loved the original (although the third movie offered some hard-to-forget scenes).

The trailers for “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones” make it seem like this one isn’t really connected to the original films, except that a young man, Jesse (Andrew Jacobs) is haunted by the same supernatural problems that plagued Katie and her family in the previous films.

And that’s true – Jesse starts experiencing some crazy scary and unbelievable paranormal, well, activity, after his downstairs neighbor, the mysterious Anna (Gloria Sandoval), is murdered. Like all of the “Paranormal Activity” films, “The Marked Ones” is also based on “found footage,” so some of the scares feel very familiar.

And that’s how much of “The Marked Ones” felt – kind of like deja vu. I wasn’t taken with much of the film, but I absolutely loved the ending. If you’re a fan of the first three, you’ll love the ending. A cool ending doesn’t make up for a boring movie, but I still love this series.

I don’t want to spoil you, and I’ll try not to, so I’ll label this as a big fat spoiler: it is very, very cool to go back and watch the first movie (especially the first movie’s ending) after you see “The Marked Ones.” That’s all I’ll say.

Spoilers over!

If you’ve seen “The Marked Ones,” what did you think?

I love every film in the series and “the marked ones” is my second fave after part 3. These films have everything I love about horror movies and are endless fun to watch in any order. Although my least favorite in the series is the fourth installment i still completely dig it and can’t help but cringe at the horror of poor hunters fate. Great story… A few characters feel redundant throughout the series like Micah=Dennis=Ben and so on. But those are my favorite characters anyway. The marked ones is definitely one of the best horror movies I’ve seen and as you’d probably guess I am Mexican. It has the more original death scenes in the series on par with part 3 some witches even get blown away by a shotgun!! Forgiving the again, redundant (and sometimes cheesy) kill scenes in the other films paranormal activity will forever be my favorite horror franchise, favorite movie of all time (paranormal activity 3), and the only films to ever give me a genuine scare as an adult.
