– Jackson Prep’s Ricky Black, who also coached at Kosciusko and Tupelo, picked up his 300th career victory on Thursday night with a 9-0 victory against Pearl.
“It’s an exciting win, 300 is special,” Black told the Clarion Ledger.
He’s just the fourth football coach in Mississippi history to record 300 victories. Black joins Booneville’s Jim Drewry (346), Joe Bradshaw (343) and Bill Hurst (337) in the 300 club.
– Three of the state’s better Class 6A teams stepped out of the state with mixed results.
Second-ranked Olive Branch (4-0) defeated Memphis University School 43-33, while fifth-ranked South Panola (2-2) was whipped 41-6 at Bentonville, Ark.
Madison Central (1-3) lost 56-28 to West Monroe, La. MPB’s third-ranked team,
Picayune (3-0) rolled past 20th-ranked Ocean Springs 35-21.
