TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Greg Byrne had an impressive first school year as Arizona’s athletic director.
The former AD at Mississippi State, Byrne took over in Tucson in May 2010 and helped guide a resurgence in Arizona’s sports.
The men’s basketball team, after a couple years of turmoil, came within a game of the Final Four. The football team reached three straight bowl games for the second time in its history despite a late-season losing streak.
The entire athletics department was back among the top 20 in the Director’s Cup, an annual ranking that measures overall athletic success.
A good start, but Byrne wants more, particularly another national championship in basketball and the Rose Bowl trip in football.
