HOOVER — Alabama scored five runs in the top of the first inning on the way to a 7-4 victory over Arkansas on Wednesday morning to open the double-elimination Southeastern Conference baseball tournament.
Alabama will play Florida on Thursday afternoon while Arkansas will play Mississippi State on Thursday morning.
The Crimson Tide (33-24) scored four of the first-inning runs with two outs. Brett Booth had a two-run single and Andrew Miller and Hunter Gregory each followed with RBI hits, chasing the Razorbacks’ starter, Randall Fant (3-4).
Alabama starting pitcher Nathan Kilcrease (7-4) struck out 10 and walked one over eight innings. Jonathan Smart retired the Razorbacks in order in the ninth inning, striking out the final two batters for his 10th save.
