Amory in must-win situation today in 4A

PEARL – Amory lost the opener of its Class 4A championship series 5-4 on a sixth-inning squeeze bunt. Now the Panthers (27-6) are in a must-win situation at 7 tonight at Trustmark Park against St. Stanislaus (25-3).
After a day off, Amory will turn to junior Drew Pickle for Game 2. Coach Chad Williams said the preparation plans were simple for tonight.
“The only thing we’re going to do is regroup, circle the wagon and be ready to play on Thursday,” Williams said.
Myrtle (21-9) is riding high after Sean Wiginton’s game-winning RBI single to force a Game 3 against St. Aloysius (21-8) in the Class 1A series.
The Hawks won today’s coin toss and will be the home team for Friday’s 10 a.m. first pitch in Game 3.
“The momentum has definitely switched over to our side,” said senior pitcher and first baseman Jimel Judon. “We are just looking to go in and play hard and hopefully come out with the gold.”
