Amory's Mitch Moreland begins rehab, awaits birth of first child

It’s going to be a big week for Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland, the former Amory and Mississippi State standout.
He’s scheduled to begin a rehab assignment today with Triple-A
Round Rock, and his wife Susannah is due to give birth to their first child on Wednesday. It’s expected that he’ll join her on that day, then resume his rehab later in the week.
He’ll play first base tonight, then will DH on Tuesday.
Moreland, who was hitting .272 with 10 homers, has been out since June 20 with a strained left hamstring. He worked out at first base on Friday and did well in base-running drills on Saturday.
“It felt great,” Moreland told the Rangers website. “I didn’t feel anything in my hamstring. The thing now is to make sure I have enough stamina.”
It’s unclear at this point if Moreland’s rehab assignment with Round Rock will last long enough for the team’s visit to Memphis, which begins Saturday.
