Redshirt freshman wing Dre Applewhite has decided to transfer from Mississippi State effective immediately.
The 6-foot-5, 217-pounder from Memphis had appeared in all 12 games for the Bulldogs this season, earning six starts.
“Transfers have unfortunately become common in college basketball,” MSU head coach Rick Ray stated in a release from the university. “We wish Dre well.”
Applewhite was averaging 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He sat out during the 2012-13 season due to a torn ACL.
Applewhite was a three-star signee in Ray’s initial signing class, playing for his father at Central High School. As a senior, Applewhite averaged 21.3 points and 11.1 rebounds leading Central into the Class 3A state title game.
Originally, he had offers from Middle Tennessee State and Missouri State.
