PEARL — This takes high school football rivalry to a whole different level.
Officials from the neighboring central Mississippi cities of Pearl and Brandon face each other on the gridiron Thursday night. The first municipal matchup is a warmup for the Friday night game between their high schools.
Most of the city leaders are well past their teenage years. As a concession to that, they’re playing flag football rather than tackle.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that other politicians who live in Rankin County — District Attorney Michael Guest and U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper — are officiating the game, set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pearl stadium.
