JACKSON – Nine Northeast Mississippi golfers – seven amateurs and two professionals – are scheduled to play this weekend in the annual Trustmark MPGA Invitational at the Country Club of Jackson.
Tupelo Country Club pro Jim Rose and Old Waverly pro Tim Yelverton are the MPGA members entered.
The amateur group features Tupelo’s Fletcher Johnson and Mike Thompson, Fulton’s Ken Hogue, Chad Ramey and Ricky Riley, Okolona’s Barrett Edens and Hamilton’s Tracey Cockerham.
The 54-hole tournament begins Friday and the final round is scheduled for Sunday.
Ramey, a sophomore on the Mississippi State golf team, won the Greenwood Invitational earlier this month.
The Mississippi Golf Association’s next event is the Mid Amateur Championship scheduled for July 29-31 at Dancing Rabbit in Philadelphia.
MSU golf coach Clay Homan, the 2011 state amateur champion, is the defending champion of the Mid Am.
