East Union clinched its first berth in the state playoffs Friday with its 33-21 road Division 1-2A win against Hatley.
Senior quarterback D.J. Armstrong rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Urchins (7-3, 2-3).
Armstrong’s TD pass covered 3 yards to Jacob Elder. Blake Spruill added a 52-yard TD run and Elder had a 40-yard rushing score.
OXFORD 56, CENTER HILL 27: The Chargers (10-0, 6-0), the Journal’s top-ranked 5A/6A school, clinched a top seed in the playoffs with its win.
QB Jack Abraham threw 4 TD passes and running back Kenzie Phillips had TD runs of 3, 5 and 37 yards for Oxford.
Backup QB Ben Bianco also threw a 13-yard scoring pass to Preston Perkins.
SALTILLO 36, LEWISBURG 26: The Tigers (7-4, 3-3), behind 3 TD runs from RB Diamante Pounds, won their Division 1-5A road game. Pounds scored on runs of 6, 40 and 46 yards.
Saltillo QB Tyler Tollison added a 16-yard TD run and passed 46 yards to A.J. Rye for another in the Tigers’ win.
BALDWYN 41, NEW SITE 12: The Bearcats (8-3, 5-0) remained unbeaten in Division 1-2A.
Duke Upshaw scored on runs of 1 and 54 yards while QB Corbin Scott threw TD strikes of 20 and 33 yards to Clayton Gray. Laquintez Upshaw also scored on a pair of 6-yard runs.
LAFAYETTE 50, BYHALIA 13: Devon Thomas passed for three TDs to lead the Commodores (6-5, 3-2) to a Division 2-4A win.
Thomas has scoring strikes of 17 and 20 yards to Dillon Helm, then fired a scrambling 28-yard pass to Montreal Nabors.
D.K. Buford had TD runs of 2 and 17 yards while Tyrell Price opened the scoring with an 80-yard run in the first quarter. He finished with 228 yards rushing on 17 carries.
MARSHALL ACA. 49, TUNICA ACADEMY 13: The Patriots (10-1) won their MAIS Class A playoffs opener behind a 3-TD passing performance by QB Dakota Dailey, who completed 11-of-13 for 191 yards.
Dailey’s scoring passed covered 42 yards to Jordan Harris, 41 yards to Devin McGregor and 31 yards to Harris. McGregor also had an 8-yard TD run and returned an interception 38 yards for a score. Dailey added a 2-yard TD run.
ITAWAMBA AHS 46, TISHOMINGO CO. 6: Hunter White rushed 176 yards and scored 2 TDs to lead the Indians (7-3, 3-1) to a 1-4A win. He scored on runs of 4 and 7 yards in the second quarter.
IAHS QB V.J. Miller completed 8-of-15 passes for 154 yards and 2 TDs. Peyton Green also scored after he blocked a punt in the end zone.
BOONEVILLE 14, KOSSUTH 0: Andrew Lambert scored on a 61-yard run with 1:39 remaining to seal the No. 5 Journal-ranked Blue Devils’ Division 1-3A win.
Prior to his TD, Booneville QB Jack Simpson scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter for the Blue Devils (8-2, 4-1).
SOUTH PANOLA 22, GRENADA 0: The top-ranked Tigers (10-1, 6-0) remained unbeaten in Division 1-6A play. Grenada (8-2, 4-2) falls behind second-placed Tupelo in the standings.
OLIVE BRANCH 27, HERNANDO 12: Olive Branch (7-4, 3-3), which visits Tupelo next week, kept its playoff hopes alive.
