Around Northeast Mississippi: Shumpert shines in return to IAHS Indians

A healthy Ashton Shumpert rushed for 158 yards on 17 carries and scored two TDs Friday to lead Itawamba AHS to a 33-0 road win at Senatobia.
The 4-star recruit, who transferred back to IAHS (4-0) after two seasons at Tupelo, missed the season’s first three games with an illness. He played his freshman year in Fulton.
“We’re proud to have him back out there,” IAHS coach Toby Collums said. “I know he was happy to be back out there.”
The senior running back opened the scoring with a 32-yard run in the first quarter, then added his second TD on a 10-yard run before halftime.
Defensively, he started at safety and recorded nine tackles, seven solo.
Indians QB Tyler Dossett threw for two TDs to Makel Hamer and Tylon Ward and Charles Moore scored on a 1-yard run.

Aberdeen 45, West Bolivar 28: At Rosedale, Aberdeen struck first against West Bolivar, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, and never looked back.
Josh Williams scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and threw two TD passes, and Chico Harrison scored on runs of 1 and 20 yards as the Bulldogs, No. 5 in the Daily Journal’s Class 3A-4A rankings, improved to 3-2.
Williams’ touchdown passes covered 50 yards to Sammie Burroughs in the second quarter and 53 yards to Aaron McMillian in the fourth quarter.
Houston 37, Hamilton 0: QB Sharone Wright rushed for 200 yards on 19 carries and scored TDs on runs of 19 and 37 yards for the Hilltoppers (5-0). Houston finished with 355 yards rushing.
Also for Houston, Emmitt Dendy kicked a 36-yard field goal. Brandon Townsend added a 29-yard run and Damian Fields a 2-yard TD scamper for the Hilltoppers.
Belmont 26, Mooreville 20: Josh Johnson scored on runs of 10 and 38 yards for the Troopers (2-3) in their road loss. Xaxier Jackson scored Mooreville’s other points on a 50-yard pass from Tay Rucker.
Alexander Fancher scored on runs of 1, 25 and 36 yards for Belmont (3-1). Colin Harris had the go-ahead TD with 1-yard rush.
Lafayette 44, Shannon 25: D.K. Buford scored TDs on runs of 6 and 8 yards for Lafayette (4-1) while QB Brandon Mack added two TD runs and threw a 35-yard pass to Tay Herrod.
For Shannon (1-4), QB Devan Gilleylen passed for one TD and rushed for two on runs of 1 and 30 yards.
Bruce 26, Ackerman 13: Tae Armstrong rushed for 144 yards and one TD, on a 58-yard run, and scored on a 65-yard punt return to lead the Trojans (4-1), the Journal’s top-ranked 1A-2A team.
Darin Sullivan added a 30-yard interception for a TD for Bruce.
East Webster 35, Walnut 0: QB Deangelo Liggins threw for one TD and rushed for two to lead the Wolverines (4-1). He opened the scoring with a 41-yard pass to Tyler Doss in the first. He added TD runs of 2 and 14.
Biggersville 32, TCPS 21: Blake Stacy threw three TD passes to lead the Lions. Charlie Forrest had a 50-yard score for the Eagles while Zachary Tybor rushed for 109 yards and had TD runs of 2 and 6 yards. Kyle Gray intercepted two passes for TCPS.
Marshall Academy 40, Carroll 7: Aaron Alexander scored three TDs, one on a 70-yard punt return, to lead the Patriots (4-1). He caught scoring passes of 65 and 91 yards from Dakota Dailey.
North Panola 6, South Pontotoc 3: Jaqua Daniels caught a 24-yard TD pass for Jatavious Farmer in the fourth quarter for North Panola. Matt Collums kicked a 24-yard field goal for the Cougars.
Calhoun City 27, Eupora 6: QB Chakel Gates scored four TDs on runs of 1, 2, 3 and 19 yards to lead the Wildcats (3-2).
Alcorn Central 6, Hatley 0: Adam Carter’s 18-yard TD in the first quarter was the lone score for the Golden Bears (2-3).
Calhoun Academy 40, Calvary Christian 8: Calhoun Academy (5-0) wins its fourth straight MAIS District 1 8-Man game.
Oak Hill 21, Winona Academy 6: The Raiders (3-2) stopped a two-game losing streak.
