Asking Logan Lowery: Who has the edge?

OFFENSE

Quarterbacks: Bo Wallace had a field day throwing the ball to Donte Moncrief in last year’s Egg Bowl and that will likely be the game plan once again. True freshman Damian Williams is MSU’s only healthy scholarship QB.

Edge: Ole Miss

Offensive line: State’s offensive line features four returning starters from a year ago including fifth-year senior Gabe Jackson, who may be the top guard in the country. The Rebels have three seniors along their front as well but have surrendered three more sacks than Mississippi State this fall.

Edge: Mississippi State

Running backs: Both teams have used multiple backs successfully during the year and each has seen its top back miss action with injury. Both teams are capable of going five deep.

Edge: Even

Wide receivers: The Rebels’ corps features three wideouts with 40 or more catches and six who have plays of 50-yards or better on the year. MSU does not have a single senior among its receivers – all first year starters. MSUtight end Malcolm Johnson has four games with 50 or more yards receiving.

Edge: Ole Miss

DEFENSE

Defensive line: The Bulldogs have a deep front and are able to three-deep at every position along the line. Ole Miss has some of the nation’s top young playmakers along its line but injuries have hurt their production.

Edge: Mississippi State

Linebackers: MSU also alternates two full groups of linebackers through in any situation and all have proven capable against the run and pass. The Rebels’ linebackers are an undersized unit but make up for it with lot of speed.

Edge: Mississippi State

Secondary: Both teams are relying on young players and have given up big plays in the passing game. The Rebels’ secondary is deeper while the Bulldogs have shown the ability to create multiple turnovers of late.

Edge: Even
