Johnthan Banks’ huge night earned him the SEC’s Freshman of the Week award, the league announced Monday.
Banks, a true freshman free safety for Mississippi State, returned two interceptions for touchdowns in Saturday’s 29-19 loss to No. 1 Florida. The first return covered 100 yards, the second one 20 yards.
The East Webster product is the first SEC player since 1968 to return two interceptions for scores in the same game and the third player overall. He has four interceptions on the season, tied for first in the SEC.
