Tupelo Christian is pulling out the stops, and the stars, for its 2013 TCPS All-Star Football Camp.
The two-day camp is scheduled for June 17-18 from 8 a.m. until noon each day. Camp fee is $75, due on walk-up registration.
Eagles football coach Shaune Holiday has a who’s who teaching the camp, including former Ole Miss and Chicago Bears lineman Terrence Metcalf and Amory native Rufus French, a TCPS assistant and former Ole Miss and Seattle Seahawks tight end.
Two former Mississippi State Bulldogs and current NFL players, Darius Slay and Pernell McPhee are coming.
“Those guys love to give back and one way to give back is through the game they love, Northeast Mississippi guys giving back to Northeast Mississippi,” Holiday said.
Slay, a former Itawamba CC cornerback, second-round draft pick and potential starter for the Detroit Lions, joins MSU alum and Super Bowl champion McPhee, also a former Itawamba CC star and Baltimore Ravens defensive end.
Another former ICC star is coming, Nettleton native Jason Ferguson spent 13 years on NFL defensive lines with the Jets, Cowboys and Dolphins.
Holiday, whose team opens the 2013 season on Aug. 23 against Tipton Rosemark Academy, said the camp holds a two-fold purpose.
“It’s to teach the fundamentals of football and let kids see they can play in a Godly manner and still play the right way,” Holiday said.
