OXFORD – No. 7 Ole Miss goes into its fourth week of baseball without its best pitcher, and time is starting to work against Scott Bittle.
After watching Bittle throw on Sunday, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco decided against making his All-American pitcher part of the travel squad for this week’s SEC tournament in Hoover, Ala.
Bittle will be nearby, however. He has an appointment Wednesday with the nationally noted Birmingham orthopedic specialist, Dr. James Andrews.
Bianco said Bittle is still working toward a goal of pitching again this season. The NCAA tournament begins May 29.
“No doubt he’s working toward pitching again,” Bianco said. “He’ll go to see Dr. Andrews, let him examine him in person, maybe get a different treatment. … He’s just day-to-day.”
Bittle was scratched from his regularly scheduled start at Auburn on May 3 and hasn’t pitched since.
